View Full Version : Cant remove parental lock

Hey All,

I have a couple of 2700's with Atmegas. All have been working fine with Wicked 6.2, all are using public numbers - All appears to be well EXCEPT...

On ONE of my IRDs, the Parental Lock is on (preventing access to any adult programming, pr0n or restricted PPVs) on just that one receiver - The rest are fine...

I've done 5 or 6 IRD hard resets (the Menu-6-3-info-right-left-tv/vid-unplug bit) with no success (The reset IS happening - I get the "Corrupt memory" message, unplug for a couple minutes, etc...) and yet the parental lockout is still there when I power the IRD back up.

When I examine the memory dump at address NVM 0001C0, it reads all 0's... (as if there is no parental password set) and yet when I try to access adult channels, or try to access the "Locks" menu, it insists on a password. (And no - It won't take "0000" or blanks as the password...)

As a final attempt to solve it, I just downloaded a 2700 TSOP dump .bin file (public numbers), JTagged and overwrote the complete TSOP. Powered the IRD back up, and holy crap - It's STILL showing the locks turned on!

I guess it's not a huge deal, as I can watch what I want on my other IRDs - It's just bugging me & I'd love to find out what's causing it on this one.

Any ideas or further suggestions?

it is in the eeprom not the tsop. take that downloaded tsop you got and make a virgin eeprom with it in flashedit. then write that to the receiver, chances are it will then take the 0000 to unlock

Charlie fixed the ability to recover lost passwords, he can reset them but we can't, without writing a new eeprom, or editing your's.

Hmmmm... Well... I created a new EEProm bin from the TSOP file I used & uploaded it to the IRD as suggested - It did affect the parental locks - But not the way I'd hoped - Now EVERYTHING is locked - Even kids programming - And "0000" isn't the unlock code.

Anything else I should try? :-)

Oops - Maybe I did it wrong - Just having a look at my FlashEdit & notice there are TWO "Eeprom" options... "Save Virgin Eeprom" and "Virginize Eeprom"... I only used the first one "Save Virgin EEPROM"... I'll try the other one & upload it to the IRD & see what happens...

I assume I just have to rewrite the EEPROM - That I don't have to rewrite the TSOP after doing the Virginize EEProm thing?

Nope - Just tried it using the "Virginize EEPROM" option, loaded it, and same thing - All channels now locked out. I tried a hard reset as well, after reloading the eeprom & same thing - All channels locked.

Any other ideas?

Well, it took some mucking about, but patience finally won out. :-)

First, I downloaded a 2700 modded (public numbers) TSOP bin.
Next - I loaded it into FlashEdit & saved a virgin eeprom bin.
Then I loaded the virgin eeprom bin into wiem32.exe, unselected all the locks, unchecked the password, etc., and saved the updated eeprom bin.
Next, I JTagged the IRD, overwrote the TSOP with the downloaded bin, then overwrote the EEPROM with the one saved using wiem32.
Last but not least, I had to freshly "full monty" my Atmega (with Wicked 6.2) because the channels all came up red initially.

After all that - *poof*, no locks & everything's back! :-)

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't realize the password was saved in EEPROM and not the TSOP. I would have spent the rest of my life redoing that damned TSOP with no results! :-)

Thanks again..

Go to the locks menu screen (menu --> 5), and when it asks for a password, hit the right arrow button many times until it unlocks. This has worked for me (with a newly-created virgin eeprom from the TSOP using FlashEdit) in the past with the the really old legacy IRDs (2700, 2800, 3700).

TLK

You have solved it now, but for others when you virginize the 2700 series EEprom, you will have a pass word on everything. When it asks for the pass word, just arrow over to the oOKand hit it. Then go to system info and take off the locks, there is no pass word to enter, just arrow over to OK.

Read the eeprom and then open it with notepad......Look in about the middle of the page and you will see your 4 digit code....worked for me a few days ago.

You will have to select what program you want to open the eeprom file.........
