You need to marry the HD to your IRD. What firmware did you write to U7? BTW, you don't need to erase/write to U6 -- just U7.

You need to find MUCH older firmware than P304 -- like P79, P80, or earlier -- in order to marry your HD to your IRD.

Yes, and if it uses the same numbers as the 501, it won't need remarried, if the numbers are different, then needs remarrying.

Updating firmware usually requires that you power down the IRD while plugged in and connected to the stream.

Only times it will update when turned on is when it notifies you an update is available, and asks if you want it. Otherwise best to leave it set for w/o permission and turn it off.

The P80 Firmware is fine. You need to use flashedit and put the public keys on the P80 firmware, (if they are not already on it). I take the hardrive out, hook it up to my desktop, use a disc formatting tool like Maxblast. It is a free utility available on Maxtors website. Use it to make a bootdisc, then bootup the desktop with the Pvr harddrive on the secondary channel. Then do a quick low-level format to the drive. Now, write your P80 firmware to U7, put the harddrive back in, then plug the PVR into the wall outlet for 1 minute. You do not even have to hook it to the stream, just plug it in for 1 minute. The drive will now be remarried to the new boxkeys. Now, you can either let it stream update, OR, you can just erase U6 and U7, and write your already updated Tsop back to U7 and you are good to go.

Note, the 510 harddrive will work fine, but it still has to be remarried to the new boxkeys and Ird number, so the above proceedure still applies.

Good luck,

Scooby-

does this work for a 510 as well?

I just got a 501 and a 510 off ebay and was hoping this would be easy for both.
