Once dish does their thing then i look for new bins maybe. No reason to release fix then turn around and do it again in couple of days for dish. But then again you never know. most people who threw down $200-300 back in the N1 days would have no beef with throwing down another $200-300 on a new updated receiver now if they think it will keep their satellite. Its the people who just bought a new coolsat a month ago that costed $300 that will be pissed. Like most people here , I have been "testing" in one form or another for quite some time. I am no expert , but through lots of reading and help from people on sites such as these, I have managed to get by ok.
Now, what I find odd is that even though we are all on the same side with one goal in mind, here we have one group of testers bashing another. Why all the animosity towards FTA boxes? I have gone the plastic route, and personally I prefer the FTA route, not because I don't have the smarts to program an echostar receiver and a rom card, but because of the cost and the ease of use. The boxes, for the most part are as close to plug n play as you can get, which appeals to most people. Not everyone is into tsops, iso programmers, jtags, etc....
So people choose the path of least resistance, so what , does that make them idiots.No, it means they have a choice. Which is what I thought these sites were all about, exploring different avenues of testing, and more importantly, helping each other.
With regards to the future life expectancy of FTA, again, who cares, why worry about something which none of us has any control over. It cracks me up that individuals here are hoping ,maybe even praying for the demise of FTA.
Now if anyone thinks here that by preaching the doomsday sermen for FTA boxes, it will somehow drive the masses to purchase bell/dish receivers, various cards, programmers for cards and receivers, etc....., I think a reality check is in order.
As long as there is high speed internet and access to torrent sites, one will never be without their beloved pay per view or porn.
Informing people about testing methods , rather than bashing them ,would seem to be a more community approach, and isn't that what it is supposed to be here, a community?

Im agree Crow 492, as matter in a fact boxes like neosat already they existed before ecm in my country they are used to get open the ditribuitor official Sky (only 60 channels) and the others I do remember heard of them before. Perhaps the coders they have decided change of the house o they are waiting the real ecm take form and they get fixed codes for fta boxes.

You obviously aren't a student of 'testing' history. This so called fix is just a patch to Kudelski's first try at playing hardball and in the following weeks we're talking a complete card/fta genocide.

I don't see any problem the channels are there the only thing that happen with mine I lost all the channels so I scaned for network channels dish is fine and bev is there just channel id is all wrong and some others tell me they have no problem yet. Fta has a the best track record keys roll fine little down time. I would buy a new fta Ird before any rom card setup since a card swap is on the back burner. I spent more on mili's hardware then on fta. I best be quite or get banned again for telling the truth.

I can understand that Mili's been around a while (since the DirecTV days) and is more focused on testing solutions that use original provider receivers. That's his choice and I'm sure he's got clients that appreciate that. The satellite testing hobby has evolved since then, however, and anyone who's been paying attention should know that the FTA industry has far too much invested to give up as soon as a new ECM arrives. The only people who know exactly what's going to happen are the providers and I seriously doubt that they'd go any easier if hacks were limited to their original receivers. I think it's fine to promote what you sell, but to bash other testing solutions on a constant basis is simply unnecessary.

"Testing" to me is testing if you are good enough to take apart and fix something that you aren't supposed to be able to do. Having enough knowledge to understand how something works and use that knowledge. I have respect for all means wheter or not it is easy or hard. I just don't consider FTA "Testing" as somone has already done the "Testing" and made the equipment and files for you. Now if you were the coder then that is a different story.

If that's your argument, richfield_guy, then I can just as easily say that no one's a true tester unless he or she writes the scripts for the ROM102, Atmega128, Enigma or other solutions of the kind. There's still an element of testing when it comes to FTA technology but it isn't always the soldering or modifying that's associated with original provider receivers. I support anyone who's interested in knowing how or why methods work the way they do, regardless of their preferred method of testing.

I have been following this post from the very beginning and I have to say that alot of peeps are getting there panties in a bunch for nothing. All Mili has done is create what he has called a "troll post". A post to instigate contraversy concerning FTA units and that's all. He wanted to see how many people he can get pissed off and start a debate and guess what? He has succeded with flying colors lol. I can remember years ago starting fights at a now nonexistent forum but one that was great big at the time...I repeatedly bashed every one of the moderators, the administrators and anyone else who gave me shit, not enough to get banned but enough to get half the internet over there to take a look. It was a blast and I was able to recruit a truckload of people for this forum, back during its infancy. For what it's worth they shut down in two months and this one is still going, nearly 7 years later. Kicking ant hills is one of life's simple pleasures.

Hey twostep, how ya doing old chap. Ain't seen ya much lately, hope everything is going well for you. While on the surface it appears that FTA has made a mess of testing. But in reality this isn't testing for most people and hasn't been since DTV days. Its about free tv. While FTA seems to be why all this stuff is happening, the DSS testing community has done it to itself. The end users, i.e. free TVers, want something with good support and good uptime with very little hassle and and easy maintenance. FTA has been the best bang for the buck for a long time, and it only gets better the longer its up. So while FTA has made a mess of DSS testing, the business end of DSS testing has driven the end user to FTA. With all the products that have come out in the past 3-4 years, most have had support, stability, or quality issues. Why would people not buy FTA ??? They have a great track record, better than most other products. So if FTA is the downfall of testing, i.e. free TVing, then so be it. But every other device manufacturer wishes they had the sales of FTA. And they would if they would have or could have provided what FTA is providing for people as we speak. But then of course we would be blaming them for the downfall of testing as we know it !!!!!!!!


BTW, I don't own or push FTA, but then again I have nothing against them. There was a demand for a product with certain traits and FTA filled that demand. Thats all, simple supply and demand.

Sorry, the best bang for the buck ...is... and will ...always be... emulation.... cemu has been around since the rom3 days and I still run my original rom3/cemu setup, on the same $10 thrift store computer, $5.00 thrift store 3100 and $4.00 8515. The majority of the original cemu code still forms the basic foundation of the proggie, and there is very little down time. And ST19XL, well, cheers PGM! True 102 emu!

By the way, while I post very, very little, I have been around a long, long time and have learned to work with all of the facets of the hobby, from coding to unlooping, building my own hardware, etc. I am no genius, sort of a 'jack of all dss trades'. And I consider myself a true 'tester' and wish that the 'not so fta'ers' of the world would use another term that better describes themselves.

No offense, I have nothing against those little black boxes with the usb cable, but it is not testing, nor is it a hobby. Even my nine year old can transfer files to her Ipod and digital camera. So if you fta'ers wish to avoid some conflict, get your own moniker, please.

I do not believe we have seen the new countermeasures fully implemented yet. Lets hold judgment until the rev updates are done and the countermeasures are looking for more than just the 301.

This is clearly a test bed and not a full implementation of the countermeasures.

And have cut code support for everything else :) It is my firm believe that you will not see files released for other models and if you got a nice expensive Viewsat or any other FTA receiver other than these newcomers you will not be watching Dish or BEV much longer. You my dear people are fucked. You were bitching when the AVR-X people disappeared and you were left with an $80 investment that you used for months useless. Get used to the idea to buy another FTA recevier or say fuck them all and get a real Echostar receiver with some kind of a card. Hahaha this is cracking me up.
