are they two different items?

may sound silly, but im trying to make sure that the tsop and the epprom are 2 different animals.
If they are, can they both be locked ?

if with the softlock on the tsop i still have to reset the ird .. cant i lock the epporm to keep it from going back to virgin status and therefore not have to go thru system set up again?

they are 2 seperate items. an Eeprom lock is a very simple device with a switch and a resistor, requiring that you lift one pin of the eeprom up from the board and solder a wire to it. there is another wire attached at pin 4 and another at pin8. If this is something you are comfortable with the schematic is posted.

very well put indeed. i usually choose to leave all that out unless asked. I do have my Eeprom locked only because it was once a wise choice. Now I have it locked because my 3800's are running all tiers opened without nags since July 5th (when charlie busted horhay blocker) before that my last nag was niv 4th last year. I have spent a lot of time on my rom3's and it has paid off. I am also using resetting digital locks with DQ7 input operational.

on older models it is a 8 pin DIP on most newer ones it is a 8-SOIC

well when i say Lock your Flash memory they always say "you mean my TSOP?" yeah well whatever. I have mine locked and it still comes back on the same channel. but i must add that i have old firmware. i havent tried any of the new firmware because this is working so well. during the last few days i have had a couple resets. I am not sure that this isnt the result of the intense solar flares we are currently exposed to. It could also be that charlie has decreased the width of the pulses again making most 74 series chips too slow. this weekend i will have a storage scope connected to the reset line looking at those signals to see what is going on and will compare those to the ones i saved last month. i expect to see them a little narrower. That is gonna raise trouble with a lot of locks and even make some problems in some very old IRDs that cant process these new pulses properly
