Is there a boot disc for PS2?? Im looking to get one for my kids for Christmas and I was wondering if the only way to play burnt games is with a modded PS2???Is there such a thing as a boot disc?

i believe there is, it has been some time since i have looked into this, but i think i remember seeing these. there is talk that stopping the spinning disc to swap them out is hard on the disc motor and a modified flip open top has to be installed (like the ps1) I think the newest small version of ps2 had these already

Get a hardwired modchip. They are dirt cheap and really reliable. A local installer around you should be able to do it for $50-60 in an evening.
XenoPS chips are under $20 shipped. 18-22 wire install, and full compatibility with almost every game, import, homebrew, action replay, and full DEV modes to boot.

Stay away from bootable/swappable discs, your kids will hate you for it and you will curse yourself for having to patch and repatch every game 20 times and frig around with it for 5 minutes swapping to this disc and that to get it to load. chips are literally put in and play. don't matter the region, don't matter the title, don't need any patching (Unless you want to play online, then might have to patch the DNAS ID in)

If you want to take the easy, quick and cheap way out, get a fat PS2, network adapter, and a hard drive. Buy a HDloader disc. around 60% of all PS2 games work with this disc and you won't need to do anything but pop the disc in and load from the hard drive. I still suggest a modchip install, as you can download HDloader on a MEM card, or the HDD itself and use the DEV modes to boot it without any discs or button combos, plus its easily updatable and currently works with over 75% of games on the 0.8 patch. Also theres no online play from the HDD..

Or if you want to keep away from soldering, have a little deeper pockts, and want to be on the bleeding edge, you can order in an Memor32 memory card, and use the memento firmware to use it as a plug and play modchip compatible with all PS2s to date. I havn't used it. If you do get one in tell me how they work.

Hope this helps.
