View Full Version : Why pages take so long to load?

I don't know what it is, but it started a while back when visiting this site. When I click on a thread to read, it takes about twenty seconds for the page to appear. It's really annoying, because I like this site. It's not happening because of the amount of users either, it's the same when hardly anyone is here. I'm not using any kind of proxies and that sort of thing, either. Anyone else have this problem?
By the way, I have a broadband connection.
I'm on dial up and pages load as quick as I can click. I'd guess a firewall or AV issue is slowing you down old school.

Can be a number of reasons, if we discount server traffic.......could be your ISP, the routing being used (remember the net is a virtual spiderweb, it's not as 'the crow flies'), if you're on cable.......sharing bandwidth. Do a trace route and count the number of hops, ping the server at least 4X and see if the time is consistent.
Also, remember this site is being hosted off-shore and the bottleneck could be at that end.
PS try turning off avatars , just play around. Mili is using compression and there is some overhead with regards to that.
If you're running a wireless 802.11b/g and using WEP, that will slow you down also.
This desktop is an old PII running 98SE and compared to my new duo core notebook, XP, both on 802.11g, slow as molasses in comparison. Have a lot of graphics dsthat could be also clogging the line so to speak. ;-)
Are you using IE? Try Opera or Fierfox - works much faster for me on this site.

Yep, firefox did the job...now when I click, it goes right to the next page...it's like going from dial up to broadband...Thanks for the info!:D By the way, I was using MSN explorer, same thing with IE. Update: This firefox is great...I've noticed pages are loading like lightning...Yeah baby!!!!!
I don't know why anyone would waste their time with a MSN browser. The freebies are much faster and more secure. You can speed firefox up even more, but I don't remember the trick off hand. Maybe someone else will chime in with that answer too.
