Can you upgrade a Pansat 2500A to a 2700

Can you tell me if :

1) Is it true that there are no more fixes for Pansat2500A

and

2) Can my Pansat 2500A be upgraded to a 2700, and if so, how complicated is that process. Is it something I can do myself or do I require a more experienced "receiver god"
