I'm still pretty new to this device, but I did overcome a couple simple issues to get my computer to properly communicate with the USB atmega256. Barring the possiblility you got a faulty card, there are basically only two things that could be the problem.
First, you MUST install the drivers for the software. To do this you simply double click on the "USB2.0 - Windows" .exe file in the driver file provided with the programming software. You may have to restart your computer before the drivers are properly installed.
Second, there are a lot of different USB cables out there. I was shocked to find out there were 5 different versions of the cable with a mini USB on one end and a regular USB on the other. Apparently these cables aren't as standardized as they should be. The cable I bought is a "Type A - 5 Pin (mini-B)" On the bag it says "Connects a computer or USB hub to digital camera, MP3 player, PDA and other portable devices". So I'm assuming most cables for camera's and the like should work, but make sure it is a 5 pin cable.
It wouldn't suprise me if there is a difference between mother boards and how they process USB input and whether or not they are USB 2.0 compatable as well, but I havn't read anything solid that would support this theory.
I don't have any enigma cards to test with, but I'm assuming, since it's also USB programable, that this information applies to the enigma card as well.
