Dish is activating MECM60 this week. Stuff will be going down in large numbers. I don't see how it is to keep us from watching TV in a day or less though, so far everything they threw out there was put together in a halfass way. Like they want fixes to be coming out in a day. Their tactics boggles my mind.

Wonder what they waited this long on? Its got to do with the fta's most likely. They might not knock them all out but maybe 1 or 2 out of a billion. FTAs have to be killing their revenue. I think its like putting a band aid on a blood sucking chest wound. I would Implement a new card swap immediately like dtv did the longer they wait the worse it will become. Once a card is violoated or hacked time to swap it. Now 2 years later their is a lot more knowledge of how the card works.
It should be interesting! FTAs are their real issue they got like 10 coders per country locked in a room overseas (hard to sue those guys) making counter-code so they can sell their boxes without a black eye to slow down sells and no I don't have anything against ftas. Its probablly the best device to own based on those facts.
Their actually might be 10 free coders doing it for the rest the community (thank you) but with that side of the coin folks using atmegas, real cards, emu, cemu etc have to fix/re-rwrite tsops, flash chips, flash loaders, pop cards thats not the billion people not a huge number at all and a lot of them have subs.
Guess its time for folks to put a real card in the aux mode.

I agree with fubr I bought 2 501's several years ago with rom 102's (back in the rom 10 days)
subbed one for a few months and still have both cams. unmarked never lost a card, always run private. stay behind the curve just a bit and be dam sure you understand what your writing to it. ditto. :)

Nah, N2 is just a broken system. Just like N1 was for a long time, thats why they changed to N2. If echostar thinks they are gonna fix this with lame ECM attempts and frivolous lawsuits they are smoking crack !!! Unless the people coding the fixes are total idiots, it will be hard to trace exactly where they come from.

The big problem for Dis* is CAM integrated IRD's, it costs more then a card swap, it's a whole IRD and card swap! That is why 102 will be around for awhile.

I may be misinformed, but I have read that the provider can activate the card slot on the cardless IRDs through the stream. In that case, you will need a new card to run in a previously cardless IRD.

not all cardless ird's actually had the card slot hardwired in, they cant stream update fix a hardware issue...

overall there are few cardless cardslotless receivers out there than you think, that are running ROM102.
Still, which is the greater loss?
swapping out millions of cards and receivers to have a secure stream, or spending millions on useless ECM's and lawsuits...
Maybe they are trying to get the ECM's to lead to lawsuits, so they can obtain the money to do the swaps.
There are some interesting thoughts in this thread. Why would the provider even waste the time to mail a cam for the icam units though? I think that I have read something to the effect that a revision 242/246? has been spotted. If that is the case just send down an update to all icams for that revision. That in itself would be a dirty deed for all icams. Then just send out new plastic for the remaining users with that revision.
Are the 103 cam's not being updated now to 206's?

I have seen 100+ 311s, and everyone had the card slot in place and soldered to the board, so maybe the real new ones with a ROM 206 chip already in place??
I can't imagine a dummy slot not connected, but I am not doubting what you say.

Just my 2 cents here, but I do not recall the last time I had to fix a reciever. not one has gone down since n2 came out and I have allways ran public numbers. It would seem to me that dish has not near the controll of the stream as they did with n1. we used to get ecmed every other day. A card swap will never work. n2 was cracked and running cemu in less then 6 weeks. The community is world wide and far to large now, in my openion to be stopped. dave is not world wide and hacking shifted to dish. just my 2 cents.

Well they did briefly nail certain irds that were using public numbers with the 153 nag....so then you had to either use private #s or go back to older firmware with public numbers to get around it lol....
But then they stopped doing it, for reasons unknown...unknown to me anyhow

I believed SI Leaker when he said that Charlie will not unleash the full ecm until the pending injuctions are in place. That makes the most sense from Charlie's perspective.
Dave used the same strategy. He sued everyone to death (and is still bringing lawsuits) scaring even the most daring coder from even thinking about publicly hacking him.

I read SI Leakers posts at satscams and here is my take.
SI Leaker is a low level worker-bee who happens to have access to Charlie's sensitive information. Much like the go-fer at Dave's law firm who copied and distributed P4 information.
SI Leaker likes the attention he is getting and sometimes through his boasting posts a legal analysis far beyond his capabilities. He is basically a wannabe with some inside information.
That does not take away his knowledge of facts such as upcomming busts and ecm strategy.

I believe that i read recently that the Supreme Court In California sided with the Testers, or in this case if you say your Experimenting and testing to make the world a better place there is nothing the Dish Community can do to you. Can Some one confirm this? I forget where I read it but it was a public Case that I believe DTV was suing a manufactor of FTA boxes, or something like that. This all being said I believe We just gained 1 million testers that are dieing to make this a better world... Ha Ha Ha Ha

One thing that is doing good for DN is that I bet more than 80% of the testing community in USA that have a DN IRD if they are testing for sure they also have a legal minimum sub with charly.... That way they increase their market share agains DT and they will hunt down FTA

So if something goes awry, no biggie. If it works then is going to get dark for a lot of peeps until a fix is figured.

I have to disagree. Not a hardware issue. Every internal cam rec. that I have seen has a wired card slot.
Please show us detail photos of both sides of the card slot from one of these mystical non-wired card slots.
From what I've seen, all the card slot traces are on the top side for the boards. From the underside it looks like the pins aren't connected...
Also, why would they spend the $ installing a card slot that can't be used???
And a card swap isn't all that expensive compaired to the millions they think they are losing, so my guess is the n2 stream is broken...and to fix it would cost more than they would gain in testers actually switching to legal TV and spending $.

There is no way it makes economic sense for Charlie to spend millions on a card swap at this time.
I think it is similar to the analog cable days. The cable companies just wanted to saturate the USA with basic cable subscriptions. In the USA 95% of Charlie testers already have a legit sub. The "loss" is in POTENTIAL revenues not actual revenues. How many testers would spend several 100 dollars a month for porn, special events, PPV etc?? For those of us who live in big city areas, bundled cable offers a better deal than Sat.
The marketing guys at Charlie are probably happy that they picked up maybe 100,000 extra customers thanks to testing. After all, Dave has the NFL Sunday Ticket. If everything in sattelite was hackproof, how many of us would subscribe to Dave rather than Charlie?
It is the FTA people that drives Charlie crazy. Millions of dollars worth of units have been sold. Most FTAers don't have a legit sub and want everything free.
The SI guys have to come up with ECMs to justify their paycheck. Charlis as a whole is not likely to be concerned with 50-100K plastic testers.
