Is there away to reset the password on a 510 without Jtaging it ?? It's not locked just want to hide the dirty channels from the little ones. I have tryed the most common passwords like 0000, 1234, 4321 and so on but no luck. I know I have read some kind of way with the remote here but couldn't find it.
So I thought I would ask.
THANKS OverEasy

A couple of things to remember - the 510 does not have a default password. If it was never set, just don't enter one at the first prompt. Note - if you have already started entering passwords at the first prompt you will have to reset the receiver to erase your attempts.
Since all you want to do is erase the current password in order to put in your own, you can do a memory dump:
Use your remote press
Menu
6
3
info
right - browse
left - theme
At that point you should see the Memory Dump Screen.
To reset the password you press
TV/Video
A message will come up saying "Non-Volatile Memory is Corrupt" - or something similar.
Just pull the power cord for 1 minute (nothing less than a minute)...
Power up and all channels are open and you can program your locks. Remember that your password is "blank" now - so when you first go to the Parental Locks screen, just hit OK past it - DON'T ENTER ANYTHING.

No, the password reset thing no longer works......
If it is not locked, then you should be able to enter a new password thru the locks screen.

But don't I need to know the present password to be able to enter a new password ?

If it is not locked, I think you can just enter a new password to lock, but am not certain about that.

Well to change the password you must enter the current password. I guess Im SOL ! Or are you saying something different than that. Because it is not locked and Im afraid if I try to lock it I will be locked out.

Don't try change password.......
I just locked mine then unlocked it, went to lock again and it said to "create a password". So just make a new one that you will remember.
