Pals, first time I try to programm my own atmega 128, bad decision to buy a "old" 128 programmer though I need to experience all the hazzle before going to the new 256.

As soon as I click on any of the jeepers buttons, "Failed to enter programm" error displays. I've used 3 laptops and 2 desktops, all of them worked with other programmer.

Do you guys think the programmer doesn't work or need to do smthin else?

Appreciate your responses...:o

Just a stoopid question .. are you using the jumperless Atmega ? If not, have you put you're jumper in program mode ?

I get this problem once in a while .. I retrieve my card and "slam" it back in to be sure it's really inserted completly.

I all that doens't work .. try to "virginize" your card. There is a few programs out there to do so. Sometime those helps.

Are you using a 8 pin or 16 pin programmer. If it's a 8 pin programmer, turn your atmega upside down and then try.

are you using a cable from your serial port to your atmega programmer? If so it could be the cable. I bought a cable once, plugged it into the back of my desktop and into my programmer. After that I would get the error message of "failed to enter program mode" all the time. I removed the cable and went back to directly plugging in to serial port and it worked fine again. Don't know why but the cable affected it. It appeared to be a good cable.
