View Full Version : New MECM killing us
After last week's timer ECM Dish and BEV both paunched a new timer ECM. Without going into tech details (something I got no clue about anyway) it is now good bye PPV and Porn for both providers if you are using any kind of an emulator setup. I am sick of explaining what emulators are and if you got no real ROM102 card then by definition an emulator is what you got. WHen a fix is released it will nto be kept a secret, you will read about it right here. YES LEMMINGS YOUR FTA RECEIVERS ARE ALSO EMULATORS.
so try to stop begging for fixes and take it up the butt like the rest of us who use Atmegas, Enigmas, ST emus etc. etc....

IKS stands for Internet Key Sharing.
its a card server somewhere overseas so it requires your box to be connected to the net to receive all programming. When there is no stand alone fix for emulation then we switch to IKS as a backup.

Sure, I'll try to tell you what's going on.
IT'S NOT FUCKING WORKING LEMMING.
Also, IKS is nice way to give your address to Dish' attorneys for legal action. Oh, BTW you'll have TV until you receive the notice of legal action against you.

fta haters like yourself can continue giving people that crazy line, but realisticly you have no standing. As if Dish/Bev would ever take the time to go after little guys like us by invading our privacy in a way that could get themselves in deep shit by rights organizations. If they were to do anything to IKS they would go after the head of the snake and thats the server itself or retailers selling these units. Be realistic and quit bashing something just because its not a rom102.
Take for instance a situation like this. Someone next door to you is feeding off your open wireless broadband connection to keep their nfusion box on IKS. If you say legal action will be taken on that person for accessing the iks server then who is really at fault. Exactly!!! Legal action could never be taken because they can't actually pin it on anyone.

Crap hits the fan and people cry - END OF FTA - END OF R102......
This is a joke - get the coders off their butts and the games on.

And I wouldnt be surprised to see Bev Charlie and Mr Coolsat in Bed together.
It seems they are the only manufacturers who arent being sued at this given time.

And once they bust the neighbor with no sat dish it's a simple matter
of walking outside to see who is close enough and has a dish.
Course they may have to wait on a warrent. But in the meantime they will
check the IP's hooked up while they are waiting.
I don't think it's likely anyone using IKS will get busted. But to save a
FTA system or to save a few bucks on getting a standalone setup with
no chance of being detected is not worth any risk IMHO.
I'm not dissing FTA systems. Have one myself. But at some point you have
to cut your losses and move on. After all with the writers on strike there's
nothing worth watching anyways.

Well said. If that were to ever have happened, I'm sure we would all have heard about it by now. Kinda like Microsoft taking me to court for using a copied version of Windows ME.

I recall my neighbor saying the same thing "invading our privacy" before Dave came after them hard and they finally settled for $10,000 rather than facing charges. My advise to you is, be careful what you advocate. IKS is NOT secure. Don't kid yourself. BTW guess what after they went after "everybody" retailers, developers, coders, end users That ended they days of Dave being hacked. Don't think they won't go after the end user and unless you live on "foreign" soil without estradiction or cooperation rights with the USA you are fair game.
Fab5 says he got the ECM figured. He is coding the software for the USB Atmega256 cards now.

Easy to make it relatively secure. Bang together a PC from old spare parts & throw a Linux distro on it. Set it up as your router, and chuck that Linksys brick in the closet. Install iptables, a proxy server, & Tor client. Proxy server redirects through the router's Tor client. IKS box has to go through the router to talk to the ouside world.

This is the first time I have actually heard someone come up with a secure way to do it. If you pipe it through the TOR network, your traffic will be obfuscated. Hard to say until someone tries whether or not the latency will be to great. Very good suggestion fLXO41pH!

I'm not running Bev right now, so I can't say from first hand experience, but I have read there was a new MECM60 and that it was active for at least a few minutes earlier today. I don't think it's been implemented full on yet. The dump was posted over at CC.
