As the title says, the receiver turns on perfectly fine *without* the dsh cable plugged in. As soon as its plugged the receiver turns off.

I have a brand new viewsat ultra (3 days old) that was working completely fine. I moved the receiver from parents room to my room and while configuring it (was basically making sure if I'm getting signals or not from sat) the receiver powers off automatically. I tried powering it on multiple times but had a no go. I turned off, unplugged cable from back and turned on receiver again and it powers up. However whenever I have the cable plugged in (from sat) the receiver does NOT turn on.

I also tried plugging cable while receiver is on, and receiver turns off in few seconds as I plug in the cable. I tried plugging a diff cable (coming from comcast) and same thing happens. If i plug the cable in different ports nothing happens and receiver works. The issue seems to be only with the "Dish In" port.

I reset factory settings and made sure I dont have a cloned receiver. I just dont know what's turning it off.

Note that receiver turns on perfectly if there is no cable plugged in.

I'd appreciate if anyone can help!

This is a viewsat ultra.

well there are several things that could of gone wrong remember that the LNB's use power so if you plugged it in maybe it gave a short.

if its only 3 days only all you have to do is call the company and say i was out of town for a few days got my box and it is DOA. what can you do for me?

maybe they will exchange it or even worse tell you to call VS for them to fix. and from what i here thats 50 to 75 bucks to replace.

Try another LNB, may be shorted. Not good to unplug coax when plugged into power, you can kill the reciver board.

Allways turn off or unplug your reciver before messing with the cable

things to test in youyr situation

1) the cable itself (happend to me)

2) multi-switch may be shorted out buy not turning off reciver before unplugging it
3) Lnb's

last would be your reciver is fucked.
