I have only dealt with FTA boxes. I need to know how the Atmega256 USB works, what do I need to have (requirements)? and if I need to reconfigure my current receiver (Viewsat Xtreme) in any way to use the Atmega256.

I'm seriuosly considering getting an Atmega256 USB, but want to make an informed decision before buying it.

Thank you

USB Atmega 256 can NOT be used in conjunction with the Viewsat unit!
You will need an actual Dishnet reciever with which you would plug the USB Atmega 256 into.

I Don't have that receiver. Is there any card or product I could use with my Viewsat to make it work. The FTA bins are not working anymore, looking for a solution that fits with my Viewsat if possible.

Thank you

I know near nothing about cards, but I read enough threads here to know you need a 301 receiver, a jtag cable to read the box code off the stb, knowledge of C+, hex, and more threads to go before you sleep...

Am I close?

Close. :) Not necessarily C+ but the ones you mentioned, plus blockers, intercepts, unlockers, TSOPs and EEproms, box keys, public keys, IDEA keys, session keys, Alan Keyes, Alicia Keys, passwords, bins, DT08s, VidModding, NagraEdit, Nagra2Edit....I have more...:p

You'll have to wait for the Viewsat folks to release a fix, or find a different way to test. Converting to a 301 DN or 3100 BV receiver is a task to be certain but certainly doable. Everything you need, including all hardware, software, tutorials and onsite help, is availabe right here.

I have an old red atmega card and I think it was a 4900 rec. that years ago had worked. I have some knowledge of jtag, and blockers etc. but wanted to know if I do spend the time have the atmega cards been up for a long time? A friend told me he knows someone using some sort of box and card that when it goes down it fixes itself in a few minutes. is this possible if so what do you think he is using? thanks

We are considering converting over to the USBatmega, we have the dish receiver, jtag cables, etc., but not a USB plug on the computer. Can be use our older computer, with a serial port and get an serial to USB adaptor. Are they are programs that will run on Mac? Will the program still communicate or recognize the USBatmega?

Thank in advance.

Don't overwhelm me or I will ask dumb questions like:
If the Atmega card doesn't fit into the Viewsat slot. which side should I cut off first?

Can I use my P4 to get Charlie's HD or just Sd?

I have a tv. What else do I need to make it go? Please point to the thread for that.

Been runnin FTA for a couple years now and have an old 301 that I used an old atmega and magic on, I assume it will still work with the new atmega. My question is do I need to spring for the USB or will the 256 parallel work just fine?

I suggest lots of reading be done if you are switching from FTA to "plastic/atmega" which is what I'm getting ready to do. I have been reading up on what needs to be done for about a week now, and am slowly gaining on it. I do know enough that FTA and plastic are 2 totally different worlds. FTA is soooo easy in comparison.
