Hi guys...can someone help me to understand a little better. I read and read but I'm still lost.

I have a pansat 2500 to 2700 conversion and thats it...no cards , ROMs and alot of other things I read about on here. From the posts it sounds like there has been a major ECM, but I still have programming, even a few PPV's. Im using the jvvh 224 bin. I havent updated to the most recent jvvh 228 bin yet. I was going to but I didnt bother when I read all the latest buzz. From what I read, Im assuming it's just a matter of time before I lose TV. When that happens, can you guys give me some advice on what other options will work for me with my present equipment ( A pansat 2500 to 2700 conversion)...and please be nice:D I'm really trying here and I dont have a great understanding of the FTA vs the other options politics....just trying to make my reciver that someone sold me work....and so far, for someone with very little knowledge and the MUCH MUCH appreciated assistance of you fine people, Ive managed pretty well. But I would like to understand all the ROM 102, atmega, plastic card talk much better. The posts mention needing other options to having all your eggs in one basket. I'm certainly open to that and would like to have some options...just dont know where to start... suggestions please!!

My humble thanks to all who can shed some light on me!

Yes Charlie is hitting FTA and so far he has knocked out ppv and premium channels quite well. As you've noticed though, *some* FTA units are still getting *some* other channels and are still autorolling.

No one, not even the many experts, knows what is going to happen next...
other than ya it is good to have other options.

Not much you can do with your present FTA except wait for a fix which may or may not be forthcoming.

So prolly your best and easiest bet is to buy a real dish reciever (a 301.10 is a good easy one, Mili sells them here). Get a jtag while you are at it.

Then get a Rom 102 card: more $$$ but likely to last longer (provided you don't pooch it or Charlie doesn't loop it)
OR
the flavour of the moment the USB Atmega 256 which is cheaper and has had strong suport (quick fixes) as of late. And can't be looped (i.e. damaged by Charlie or you beyond repair)
OR
A Rom 102 and Romcode, which is private support for your Rom 102, you can subscribe to it here

The actual procedures of setting up the IRD and the card well enough to make them work is not really that difficult, though for sure there is a learning curve. What can be hard is manouvering through the clusterfuck of confusing and conflicting information....no real way around that except to spend hours and hours down the rabbithole of "reading" ...and then asking questions, lots of people around to help...good luck
