I have a question. Since the Atmega 128 looks dead. I guess I need to buy something new. My question is should I get the Atmega 256 or the USB Atmega 256? I know I have read and saw that most people say to get the USB Atmega if money allows, but that doesn’t reall answer my question. Below is the questions I would like to ask so I can make a better decision. I use the Atmega in a 510 and 301.013 receiver.

Which Atmega do you believe will last longer? The 128 lasted years and I would like to be fairly confident that the one I chose to buy will do the same. I know some of the new testing devices where hot but then died fairly quick.
Are both Atmega versions 100% open at this time, and which one usually has less down time?
What are the pros and cons of each version?
What do you think about rom 102 cards. I have some of them that can be unlocked I would just have to buy a unlocker. I have never messed with them because the Atmega was so easy and it always worked well. Plus I haven’t programmed plastic since the rom 10 cards died shortly after nagra2. So I don’t have any ideal where to start with 102, but I’m sure I could read the fourms and learn plastic programming again.
What is your feeling about the Atmega 128? Do you think it is dead or do you thing it will be back and working soon?
Thanks. I know you all are probably tired of answering this question so I am grateful. I just want to make an informed decision.

I would also suggest if you have rom102 then get your self an unlocker and get them unlocked you can never go wrong with a true rom102 or rom103..
