New to this dish thing (did the dtv thing) I have the dp301.013, which needs the vid mod and jtag, but I have no idea how to solder. I have read and read, and looked at diagrams, but it just makes me more confused. Don't know anyone in my area that is doing these and don't really want to ask around, I don't want the neighborhood knowing I got tv.

Question is, is there anyone that does this work, like I can send it off and have it come back with the vid mod and like a permanent jtag installed ?

There a couple of guys here that do these things, but I have no idea how they charge. You also will be responsible for shipping both ways I'm sure. It may be cheaper just to purchase one from Mili, already modded.

IF you go to any electronic store and tell them you want to buy a soldering iron, HOWEVER, would they please show you how to use it, that'll solve that problem.

If you are just looking for someone to DO THE WORK for you, you'll have a tough time telling the scams from the real thing. I don't know of anyone that will give you a REAL ADDRESS for you to send anything. We are way too aware of giving out addresses so that charlie or beverly can find us.

Besides, if you buy a small electronic kit someplace and LEARN how to do it yourslf, YOU will feel a lot better about doing it yourself.

Not bashing, but trying to help.

ok this is gonna take some one on one, we will have to spend a lot of time with each other for this.............wait,,,,,,my bad I thought it said nymphogirl...nevermind.----------------------->lol.

really it is not to hard but it is not something you want to start out on...I would find a old circuit board to practice on or if you decide to send it out I would make sure it is a oldtime member who people trust and can get references. That way you know it is somebody who has done it alot and dint take the money and run....so you would want someone who had something to lose like a good rep.

Fubr is right, there is not but one or two people, even here that have a reputation of that quality. Thats why I suggested purchasing one already modded from the store here. Shipping can be very expensive. Being consistant with soldering requires a great deal of practice. You're probably not going to get that reading about it.

soldering is a skill, an aquired skill, that gets better over time.
get an iron, solder, flux, alcohol, some cutters and strippers, and some solid core 30AWG and 24AWG wire. Now find some dead electronics and knock yourself out.
Joints should be smooth and shiny.. no dull.. no spikes... no ripples.. Once you got the feeling its nothing to do a vidmod on a 013.

You could also sell your 013 and get a 3100.010 - Identical IRD, works on both providers, but these don't need a vidmod, and solding the jtag onto them is very easy, some with cutouts even can use solderless pogo connections.

Hope this helps. Finding soldering/work help in this hobby isn't fesiable anymore. Do it yourself, or find a way to do it yourself. I wouldn't even trust anyone to do anything to nothing of mine. If u have a college or university close by, students always need a bit of extra cash tho.. if you trust them. :P

I appreciate the help, but I don't know what half of this stuff is, (I know what alcohol is and what strippers are, but I'm not sure we are on the same page here)

All the instructions say solder from this pin to that thing and I don't even know what a pin is.

Also the only receivers I saw at this store were the pvr's that had the vid mod and the jtag already, is there any normal receivers with this done ??

Nimogirl....
If you know what alcohol and strippers are...you are half way there..now take your DP301 and buy a plane ticket to Dallas, TX...plan on a 3-4 day stay...

are u sure the 013 u have needs the v/mod? dual tsop 013's don't, singles do.....if it is a single, then for the cost of a 301.010, get one of those and forget the 013. they are the worst irds ever to work on, and u don't want that one to be your first. thats a personal opinion, but they are alot of unnecessary work.

Yeh, I appreciate that, but I already read all of that and ya'll seem to think it is so easy, but I am not exactly a tech whiz and I have know idea what a 12 volt 1 watt zener diode is. I'm really not an idiot, I've been doing pretty good for the last 9 years without a cable bill, but the last few were thanks to veiwsat. This is a little more complicated.

I found a 3700 I can get cheap, so let me do some more reading and see what I need to do.

Thanks again ya'll for the help.

There you go, a 3700 IRD only needs to be Jtag'ed and you are ready to go. I know how to vid-mod, but I like the simplicity of the older IRD's. 2700,2800,3700,3800,3900 all work just as well as 301's, without the headache of these mods.
