View Full Version : romcode will no longer write cards

I’m wondering if I am the only one who has seen troubles in programming with romcode especially since the new updates. It got harder and harder to get my cards to write. Every time I tried to write to card it got less likely to finish. When it did not write “fail to write image” it came back with unknown provider. Not to much of a problem, I would just write the original back to the card and then program. Worked most of the time at first but now none of my cards will write with romcode at all. They all start to write then stop and say fail to write image. I have tried all the things I could find on this forum including the uninstalling romcode etc. but nothing has worked so far except that now I can not program any of my cards with romcode. Like I said I was just wondering if there are any others having the same problems. I also have different types of loaders and they are all doing the same thing. I thought it was supposed to be easy to use romcode and pretty much has in the past.
Thanks for any info any of you may be able to help with.

I have no problem here. I wonder what has changed for you? Something must have changed as no one else has mentioned a problem. Have you recently added any software that may be causing a problem?

It failed to write my 103 card and locked me out of it and now I can't get back in....if this is how romcode is gonna be, I doubt I will be renewing my sub...

I think it might be your operating system, or some setting chaged on your com port. My new PC has vista and RC writes really slow, and sometimes fails, on XP never a problem for me

Yep same as jacktha1 said. I have a vista operating system with a usb to parallel port cord and it's super slow and sometimes fails to write the image.

I built an xp machine with an onboard parallel port for my girlfriend and use it with no issues, works in seconds without fail.

Vista = no OS! Windows 7 will be released in the fall it looks like. vista is a total resource hog and slower than XP in almost every application.

I agree, it blows, and the shouldve never released it to begin with. IMHO!

a freind of mine has the exact same problem as you!! At first romcode worked fine for him, then over time he would call me with unknown provider and i would fix it for him. {at least 10 times} Now it takes him forever to reprogram his card and if it fails when writeing he gets unknown provider. sometimes he has to come to my home to program his card. I know its a problem with his computer. he has an hp 2500 with a corporate ver. of xp as an operating sys. I would interested to look for similarites with yours & his equip.- software.

i was able to finally get a couple of my cards to write. i used the very risky setting so i would not have to try and program then again so soon. i think there may be something running on my computer in the back ground somewhere somehow even though i have looked. i am also running xp corp. in order to get the cards to write i shut down everything and the first thing after start up i opened romcode and was able to get a clean write. sometimes this would work and sometimes not but it was the only way lately to even have a chance.
Thanks guys for the input it definitely makes me feel better knowing others are having similar and or same problems. I have been testing for a few years and one thing is for sure, the learning never stops.

I had two different USB to Serial port. Some times they would work sometimes problems. Thought thet were going bad so bought a new one. It was a little better. I'm running XP on a one year old computer I've always had problems on and off. For some reason they are unstable and drop out. One woulstop at getting provider. The second would get provider and then stop. The newest would get to writing card 3/4 of the way and quit. Even tried a PCI to serial. no go. My nine year old computer with real serial and parallel ports works ffne I don't use fhese for anything but romcode so I don't know if it is the hardware or the diiculty of romcode.

Was using whatever it was that came with SBC. Now they have switched to Norton. That seems about the time I started having problems. You may be on to something! The computer is a Hp pavillion a1620n. Pentium 3.0 m. Not duo..

Open Guest account and run from there with nothing other than RC added.

Google and d/l process explorer and you will see what is running. Mush better than MS task manager.
