Hello

I Have a 3100.010-NORSA and just went and bought a blue atmega256 24mhz and i used Phoenix to program the card. ive programmed this card 3-4 times, didn't work, just kept getting smart card not inserted correctly and the CamID was S 0000-0000-00. This was LAst night with pheonix 1.2, then this morning i grab the card from the top of my stand, tried to program it and Pheonix just keeps saying Card Not Detected. when i open pheonix it does say Dlportio is installed and dlportio is running, so i switch card try my other atmega256 18.43, and works fine io can program it, but the 24mhz doesn't detect, any1 has any suggestions?

Use the jeepers program and try "erase flash/eeprom" and "alternative chip erase", see if that works.

i have done that, i have erased 7-8 times, and still nothing, maybe the atmega is really dead.

thank you for the suggestion

The clock speed on the 256 is 16mhz. Your overclocking it by 8mhz. thats why its dead

Did you change the XTAL speed to 24 when you programed or was it still set on 18.432. If that don't do it then try swapping out the XTAL.

I had the same problem recently with a blue 256/24. It always said "Failed to enter program". I checked the usual connection problems. I thought the card was dead. It shipped with an extra 18.432 xtal, so I removed the 24 and soldered in the 18.4. Worked first time and is working now. You might try swapping the xtal.

Hope this helps...enigma

thanx you for all the ideas, i will give these a try and see hwt a i can get out of it, when i programmed my card, i did program it with the right xtal speed, not shure why u telling me that irt was 8mhz overclocked. i will check up with all these, and post results as soon as i have them, thank you every1.

and just to clarify with kings322, my atmega ia 24.000MHz the xtal reads "24f00J"
and my other one is 18.43 chips reads "18.4f .0A"

viruzman.
All King is saying that manufacturer (Atmel) recomended speed for Atmega chip is 16Mhz.
24Mhz is way too fast for this microcontroller, therefore it could be burned out.

are you recomending that it should be programed at 16mhz, even if the xtral says 24mhz...?

If the Xtal says:

18.00mhz, program @ 18.00mhz

18.432mhz, program @ 18.432mhz

24mhz, program @ 24mhz

Also try the jumper mod listed above if you are have communication problems with card. Get JEEPERs256 and try to use that (while jumpered) to reset FUSES, or reflash to factory the card.

Alt erase 3x, then erase 3x, then reset fuses while jumper is set. then remove jumper and try programming in phoenix (off of a fresh reboot as well..).

Just keep trying everything you can. I have a haft dozen of these cards and a couple gave the same problems that you are experiencing. I just kept at and after dozen of try playing around with it with different programs, they finally work.
