DB25 cable question

I have a blue Atmega 256 non-usb with programmer.

Would a regular DB25 parallel to DB25 parallel cable work or do I need a crossover (null) cable?

I'm not new to testing just new to atmega and I've done alot of reading in the past month before attempting this endevour.

My atmega won't enter program mode and I tried all the supposed fixes including jumpering and alt erase x3 then erase x3 thats why the cable question.

Actually I'm guessing it needs to be IEEE compliant cable (Bi-Directional)

DB25 X DB25 streight cable should be OK.

cobra4x4, that's the cable that I have been using for all my non usb atmegas and it has not let me down yet.
