Hey everyone, I am new here and well its been about 3 years since i have been in this game. I don't know the new things and I was out with the old rom 10s. I am looking to get back into the swing of things and I am looking for something really easy to learn and manage. Here is what I want:
Open programing
Locals from across the nation
PPV
and a active guide

I don't know if at this point it is better to go with the cards and a 301 or to go with a FTA reciever. I would like the easiest route that has all of the above options on it. I am set up with a sat at 110 and 119.

Here is what I already have for equipment that I have had since i left the hobby and that i bought expecting to start up with the rom 102s.

I have 3 rom 102s that have been out of the stream for almost 4 years
the blue nexus box
the orange nexus box
a j-tag for 301.010
and some 301.010s

So I am totally looking for some help on what to do here. Am I better off selling this stuff off and getting an fta or are the programming of the cards been simplified and which is the better option. I am really looking forward to getting back into the hobby, and looking forward to making some friends here.

If it was me, I would set the 301-010s up with SKs, all cloned alike, and marry cards to them.

You will need a blocker for the cards, but here are a couple freewares running around.

Cards out of stream 4 years, prolly rev 103 maybe 105, easy to unlock either.

Thanks for the info. Sorry but I didn't quite understand, because they have been out of the stream for so long at rev 103 or 105 they are harder to open? Also what are SKs? thanks

No, early revisions are easiest to open.

SKs are secondary keys used to marry a receiver/card, they are not native to a -010, but work fine in them.

Ah, great. Atleast that is some good news that I should be able to open them up. I remember back when everyone was saying that you had to be carefull opening cards because you could mess them up. Is that still true? Also is there a step by step guide that you would recommend for the complete process? What is the advantage of marrying a card and reciever?

Many unlocking scripts are available, just depends on really what revision you actually have.

Marrying, won't work without it.
Gone are the days of just receiver number/boxkeys matching. UNLESS, you use a no-rsa type script for the card, such as public numbers.
