Plenty of information on 311 receivers here...try the search button. In other words, I could go on and on about how to get your 311's up, but it's already here...good luck!

Depends on your abilities, Personally I throw the boxes away, after pulling the chip, then use the chip in any card type receiver.
Otherwise the chip has to be specific for each 311 because no flash edits are possible.
I can clone all my 301 etc together and use the chip from a 311 in any one.
You would not believe the number of 311s I personally have put in the trash.

I have a hot air gun to remove chip, and put the chip on just about any kind of board with contacts on it. Some people even put then on old rom 10 or looped 102 cards.

I find that the 311's are the esiest to emulate with - just pop the chip off with a hot air device - mount on a bga board - many types available for that - unlock the chip - once unlocked - change tiers dates and so on. Then you can either mod card slot or install a emu board and emulate. I have about 20 311's emulating and also some with onboard chip and interface. Sorry skinnerd - I don't have as big of trash can as you - LOL

I throw them because I have a good supply of cheap 301s, so cloning all the receivers I do to the same number cuts way down on how many files I have to keep track of. That is difficult to do with cardless boxes.
I realize that is not an option for a lot of people, but works here.
Quick ? I had cut the pc board around the bga chip and mounted it to an old dtv board from the old days. yes I'm a pack rat. Then ran appropriate connections to the board, still working.
My ? is how easy is it to use the heat gun and not destroy the bga and how tough is it to solder to the chip once removed

I use a special hot air solder station that you can set the heat so you do not over heat the chip. They come off real easy. Putting them back on to a BGA board can be a bit tedious but not so bad.

My hot air gun gets them so hot I cannot pick them up for a few minutes after removal, never smoked one yet. I can tell when they are hot enough to pull by the smell of the board when it gets hot. Just heat all around the chip, and when hot enough it will come right off. I lift it off with a needle nose plier.

I have done 6 of these in the last couple weeks. I pull chip and mount on old rom 10 or 3 card, then i do the alternate card slot activation. I can do it in about 20 minute 10 minutes to remove and mount chip and then 10 more to wire up card slot. I don't wire card slot till after card opens, other thing of interest, rev 28A is not recognized with the RM_1A program so it won't open them. it should, minor oversite is all. I have been trying to get this taken care of

I personally leave the chip onboard, make the isolation trace cuts, glitch the chip in place, jump the traces back and wire the traces to a female DB9 connector that I install on the back of the DP311.
Then I have a card (much like DVD's avatar) with a male DB9 connector on it. I slide the card in an ISO programmer, mate the two DB9 connectors, and access the DP311 via N2Edit to write the card.
I hate wasting a perfectly good receiver!

Wiley,
Which method do you use for on-board glitching? I tried it using a method by Dreamer1967 but never could get the chip to unlock. I was able to connect the DB9 to it and check card info and the scripts were communicating with chip but never would unlock. I ended up removing the chip and mounting it to an old rom10 card and was able to unlock it.

I use Dreamer1967's method...the wires have to be EXTREMELY short!!!! I am talking about no more than 2 inches total from trace to ISO! (I remove the board from the case for this).
I also had problems when I was using 5 inches of wire...when I switched to the 2 inches...the cards started banging right away!!!
