View Full Version : 301.013 single Can not Write to TSOP

I've got a 301.103 single chip. I used as an FTA for about a year a recently decided to get my plastic going again.
I can read, backup and access the TSOP fine but anytime I try to erase or write to the TSOP I get error writing sector (whatever location i'm trying to write).
When I try to erase it flashes for about a second and acts like it's completed, even though nothing was erased. Vidmod has been performed and a year ago this box didn't give me any problems I must have reprogrammed between FTA and original Tsop files 5-10 times with no problem.
Any Idea what would allow me to read but not write this tsop?
Thanks,

Are you grounding the R79 point?

Sounds like the vidmod isn't enabled. I've made that mistake before. If you have a switch, check that its on

That would not allow the last sector to erase/write, but the rest should. Sounds like he is not in link mode, that sometimes prevents all erase/writes.

ah, I read that post too fast. Your right. I thought he said he could erase all but the last sector. I had that problem too, I think my R79 was not grounded like you said. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I just ran a wire from R79 to pin 19 (i think) of the parallel port jtag (the old version). On the computers I've tested, pins 19-25 are grounded so when you plug the jtag into the parallel port, the R79 pad is grounded. Seems to work for me but good luck

Close.......pins 2-20 are ground......the even numbered ones.

9, 11, 13, 15, and 19 are the jtag port pins.

Sorry, I was referring to the parallel port pins 19-25 being grounded at the computer

R79 is grounded. with vidmod switch on I get the 12 volt. I think I left the vidmod enabled the past 6-9 months I was running as an FTA could that have screwed up the TSOP chip? I'm gonna resolder all connections tonight It just seems strange that I can read the tsop fine to back it up but I can not erase or program it. I'll post again to follow up.
Thanks for the suggestions. What is required to get this IRD into Link Mode.

Groundng R79 is what causes it to boot from rom, ie link mode.

I don't know if leaving 12v on the flash for an extended period will hurt the flash chip or not, but I certainly would not chance it, just too easy to do it right.
