I have a 2 chip (232\2313) and I can't get it to take a flash. I tried using the 10 pin's programmer(from the old atmega 128) and jeepers says failed to enter program mode. Then I removed the 2313 chip, put it in the atmel programmer, tried to fash with jeepers and the same result. What am I doing wrong?

try using xpatmel with the atmel programmer, a 10 pin atmega programmer is not gonna do it, I remove the atmel. put it in a old loader that i have and flash it in xpatmel

I'm trying that right now, but it keeps saying failed: unknown com port. What can I do to correct it?
Edit: I tried some older versions of xpatmel and the error on those was; cannot open dynamic driver.

I'm using xp. The programmer I got (for the 2313) was from dishtesting.com and it plugs into the printer port.

ahh, i am not in front of my testing computer, but it works through com port. I do not think you can change it to lpt port.

So what can I do? Any ideas? If not thanks for trying. I'm in the shoutbox now.

You will have to stick with a program that uses the lpt25 port or build a com port programmer

Well I used FBPRG16.exe and flashed the chip with what seemed to be no problems. I tried to hook it up and now I have a new set of problems. Both my serial port and the connector that came with the maxmel are female. I know an adapter easily fixes this, but, the serial port on my comp is 15 pin and the one that came with the maxmel is only 9. What now?
Edit: I just found a db9 to db25 adapter, would this work for my application? Would the cemu program recognize it in that port?

Serial Ports on the back of a desktop are ONLY 9 PIN / MALE. 15 PIN is a video. You may not have a serial port then. In this case you may want to see the sticky that discusses the USB interface for EMU.

Thanks a million empulse, I'm glad to find out something tonight. I guess the old comp in my daughters room( she don't use because I don't let her have internet by herself) is coming out and she can just use mine, lol.
