i had the same problem. after update to 4.63 my hdd failed. so i then took the hdd out of a another 522 that i used for parts and now its working. i read a post that said that you couldn't use a hdd from another unit because the hdd was supposed to married to that unit but its working fine now. i was gonna try and create a hdd image of the working drive but don't want to loose it. i will do some more reading before i try doing that.

A 510 is hard drive model specific, there are only a small number of drives that will work, and a new drive cannot simply be stuck and and work, it must be married to the receiver number.
There are a number of threads concerning this, please do some research and READ.

hovac_i ordered a new hard drive
the same model as i took out
i used maxblast and did a quick zero fill of the new hd
i wrote a virgin p079 firmware to my receiver
i also wrote a virgin eeprom
it then married when i plugged in
then i just re wrote my saved tsops & eeprom back to it
this is a little complicated but if you have jtagged a 510 before you can do it
good luck and as the master (skinerd)has said read read read
