NOOB question

In most files it states the password, and the line that it's on, and says to change it before writing it to the card for "safety".

Could anyone please tell me why this needs to be done -- I've never done it so far.

This is so the provider can't simply walk right past you're blocker and loop your card, by using the default password. Remember that they read these forums, as well, and know all the default ones. Just a little extra safegaurd.
