View Full Version : Only getting sat channels

A couple of weeks ago my FLU blew a capacitor. I replaced it, but ever since then, I cannot get all the sats or channels. On 119, I get decent signal strength, but ZERO quality, so a blind scan comes back with nothing. On 110, I get signal and quality, but only about 1/3 the channels I used to get (I get ppv and vod, but no cnn, cnbc, etc.).

Since I get decent signal strength, the LNB, dish aiming, and diseq seem okay. Since I get some channels, the basic electronics seem okay. I've been through a couple of bin updates, but it hasn't fixed it. It also flips to "No signal" for about 10 seconds every 5-10 minutes. I'm currently running Jvvh_254_Nkk.bin, but since I don't see anybody else complaining in any of the forums, I presume the bin is okay.

Am I the only one not getting everything? Anybody have suggestions?

Thanks

whatever circuit blew the cap probally has to do with the sattelite feed. something further down the line or in line before that blown cap is damaged. Or maybe it took a big power surge and fubared more than one part of the receivers circuitry. Something may have caused cap to blow probally voltage spike and in the meantime also damaged something else

Horizontal TPs work on 18V and the Vertical on 13V

You need to put a short piece of coax on the LNB port on your receiver and check the output with a volt meter.

You should get voltages switching between 13V and 18V (Maybe up to 20V, don't sweat a volt or two).

You can try manually setting your receiver to a horizontal or vertical TP to see if the voltage changes. If you get one and not the other then you know the problem is in the receiver. If the receiver is sending both voltages it is possible that you've got a bad LNB.

I've never messed with a Fortec, but I had a problem on a unit awhile back and it turned out to be a transistor that fed one of the TP voltages (Switching Transistor in a TO-220 case, but I don't remember specs). If you had a blown cap it's possible (likely) that it took something else out with it when it shorted.

Hope this helps!
