Thursday ECM // 2008-04-03
Reports are coming in on the usual Thursday ECM, it is being sent by both providers. The only working hacks at this time are plastics (public and private), IKS type receivers (Nfusion etc...)
Fixes were out within hours of the ECM (an other lame attempt by the providers), Viewsat, SonicView, CaptiveWorks and Coolsat (newer models only by Coolsat) were the first few to release the fixes.
Coolsat not supporting their first generation rece // 2008-04-01
Lot of complains coming in from end users that Coolsat is not supporting their first generation receivers (Coolsat 4000, 5000 and 6000 models).
For any company to drop their earlier generation receivers so they can sell their newer models can be double edge sword, they might get few people upgrading to the newer models but majority of them will buy from other manufactures who have history of providing support for ALL of their receivers, newer and older.

i believe the cs6000 premium is only a year old so does that mean they won't support the 7000 next time they decide to make a new model?
very bad business decision cause most will go to other companies if they don't start supporting all they have sold! on every forum you are seeing big complaints
if they are'nt gonna support these older fta's then they should release source codes so people can do it themselves

my uncoolsat 6000 is collecting dust with a possible future in becoming a boat anchor(cement sold seprately)..i got frustrated with the lack of support from coolsat and put this receiver out to pasture...would i ever buy another coolsat product?.....hell no...as thier lack of support for the one i bought will soon be passed on to thier newer model in the future...my two wabbit cents......

Hate to be the bad apple here but:
you have to remember that bought a receiver which is a for FTA and they claimed it to nothing else. When i bought mine the dealer was clear to tell me this and that if i was able to get anything else was a bonus. Also was told that if the extra bonus was ever to stop that it was still a great FTA system. The unit i speak of is the CS5000 which in my rec room and they watch FTA channels on it....not the best but still what i bought...a FTA
The game we play....when we test

ha ha...?
I never said someone would buy the FTA for local channels..
what i did say is that for someone to think that they are buying the receiver with the idea that they have the right for to support for anything else but FTA is wrong on their part. For you or anyone else to think this is stupid/ and for anyone to think that Coolsat has to give you anything above that is also stupid. The CS5000 i use is working as a FTA ( just what i bought )
enough said...have a great day

no one was buying coolsat until coolsat themselves provided support for stealing dish programming.
why should coolsat sell these units, implying that they can be used to steal signals, and then cut people off?
so yes, anyone buying a coolsat under the conditions coolsat created has a right to expect that coolsat will continue their support.

Simple solution,
Don't buy from this once very good company, now turned in to a bunch of money grabbing assholes. On there release site if you even ask about a bin for anyone of these receivers you are banned for a week. IF you DARE to complain about the lack of support by the Coolsat assholes, they want to send a hitman after you.
When that site was first started it was because of action like the above statement. They have become just what they said they never would, a bunch of Nazi's who refuse to stand up for there membership.
They should pull the whole damn Coolsat section until that company supports EVERY unit equally .....
Want a laugh, I read that coolsat told them, there are three groups of coders for there units. The group that codes for 4/5/6K's went on vacation to Europe and should be back one of these days....
Sad part is the sheep keep following without question,,, Personally I moved on and drop money into others pockets, who know who there most imnportant company asset is, there customer,,,,

Im a real newbie..so not sure how this all works, but with my pansat 2500 when there were no more fixes being supplied, I was able to convert to 2700 and now just recently to PUFF. I suspect the difference is that pansat is supporting this upgrade and conversion and coolsat isnt. I do have a coolsat 6000, so Im just wondering, is it really a potential boat anchor or can it be converted or ubgraded in some way so it will work.
Thanks guys.....appreciate:D

I personally got almost two years out of my CoolSat 5K...for $115, thats not bad at all! Anything after a year is actually bonus for me. If you just bought one, then you didn't do enough research...the "new" models have been out for almost a year.
So quit your whining...if your FTA "works" for a month, thats over $500 value that you are getting for your money!

Very good point and I agree. And you're right about that coolsat site. Even the stupid joke posted by some one was flagged and the person was banned.Ha Ha

You know what, you are one of the sheep I was talking about, bah, bah, bah
If you knew anything, you know that CS dumped the support for the 6K months after it's release.
I started with the 4K upgraded to the 5K and then moved up to the 6K. Why, because CS was top of the line and supported there customer base. So I dumped more then enough money in to CS and excuse me for expecting them to support me as I have supported them.
I'm happy for you and your two years, but if you bought a 6K and were told no more support after owning it two months then you would be singing a different tune.
If the units were unable to do what they were suppose to do, then fine. If the ram or chip were unable to do what you bought them for orginally because the providers changed something to make them unable to keep up, most owner could live with it. It called testing and those who have been at it for any amount of time know damn well it's not cheap and it's ever changing.
Yet, in this case that is not what is going on, it's nothing but a money grab by CS because the produced too good a unit on there second release.
The 5K is still one of the best units every made and better then the crap they are releasing now. Also if you look at company's like Pansat and how they handled there older units you would see a class act as opposed to a bunch of money grabbing buttheads.
So you keep buying those CS's my friend, i'm sure they will never bend you over. Me, I would never give those rat bastards another dime of my or anyone else's money that I deal with. An I can tell you there are thousands like me out in the community who will cause this company to pack it in long before the providers do.
How you ask, by trying to make sheep like you understand nothing is promised, but somethings are implied and that's the difference between making it in this business or being thought of as a bunch of losers pricks just out for your dollars...

exactly, if they just continued producing the 5k (maybe with a usb port) and an hd model along with top notch support they would be selling more units than they could produce.

Everyone in this hobby is trying to make as much money as possible because one never knows when it will be game over or a long time out.
I've owned 2 un-coolsats in the past 3 years and was quite happy with them, but the support has been very slow and questionable for the last 3-4 months. So I decided to donate my hard earned cash to another manufacturer and am quite happy with my choice.
My mind was pretty much made up when they released a bin last December and wrote a reminder that these boxes were no longer made or something to that effect. I'm surprised it took this long for them to kick their customers to the curb. Nice business plan!

True FTA is testing....downloading 3rd party bins and loading them to a DVB is called being lazy and spoiled, and I like being lazy ;-)

I read a lot and don't post much, but I need to reply. I too have got a couple of years from my 5K but my buddy who bought a 6k (because i told him to last sept), didn't do so well. CS is definitely playing games of some sort, but I would not have had a problem if they stood up and said 170 would be the last bin. Many people have been waiting around and would have bought a new machine had they known it was over. Even if they release a bin today, it is way too slow. I would even buy a new machine every year if I support was quick. I don't need it for free. I pay for Look Communcations, but I want channels that aren't available in Canada. Having said my piece, as of 1 hour ago, my CNX Mini is on the way!

heres something to think about
this is how i see things going down
if they don't start supporting the older irds again
then everyone and their brother will buy from other companies
if this happens then they won't be supporting the newest models either
no more cs period cause if they can't make money then they will disappear
its to their advantage to support all models cause cs is a great box and only lacking in support. i noticed that they have released (i think) a new bin for the 5000 but not the 6000 so whats up with that?
