Total Newbie Here - Just lost 3100 receiver
Want to get onboard with junkyard fix but don't know what all short forms such as "IRD" , "JTAG" and "TSOP" stand for in order to start.
Any help from the pro's would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

IRD / RECEIVER - IRD is an acronym for Integrated Receiver-Decoder. An IRD is your receiver

JTAG - JTAG stands for "Joint Test Access Group". Used to gain access to your IRD.

TSOP - Thin Small Outline Package (refers to the shape of the chip) The TSOP is a type of surface mount package. The TSOP holds the firmware that makes your receiver work and how your menus look and work. It's kind of like computer BIOS. It maps out all the channels in the the Providers world. Irds use the 32 pin, 40 pin (rare by sharp), and 48 pin type from 512k to 2MB an some newer irds run dual 2MB tsops.

Hope this answers your questions.

There certainly seems to be an overwhelming demand for the junkyard fix......I suppose it will only take once for people to realize how costly this hobby can be when they start frying irds

Yes, I have just started this learning curve (more like a vertical wall, but oh well) and I am trying to read all that I can. However, I am kind of a visual learner so are there any pictures/diagrams/schematics of whats going on inside the machine (just wondereing)? Thanks for all the patience by the Pros out there.
