View Full Version : New MECM takes out everything. Expected downtime will be max. 10 minutes :-)
They are paving the way to loop ROM cards and marking the EEPROM of cards that let the MECM through. What a joke bothering with ROMs instead of the fucking FTAs which are collateral damage alog with other emulators. The fix is easy and we expect every platform to be up again by tonight. Charlie is doing a big nothing once again. LOSERS!!!

don't be so quick to dismiss this mecm as harmless.
quote from fab5:
hxxp://www.card-coders.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3753
Basically, you got it right. This latest MECM fills all pointers and registers with random data. It can then call and execute any Map in the range $20 - $5F (64 map calls in total) based on a single byte embedded in CMD07 which comes down every 15 seconds.
They can change the Map Call on the fly and don't need to send down a new MECM to do that. They can even use a different Map Call on every channel if they so desired.
Thats the way it goes.
Fab5
Knowing their track record I am certain that a big nothing will come off this new potential. THey will soon abandon the effective ECM and concentrate on weekly key rolls instead.

if one would rate all the mecm's on a scale of 1-10 (10 being total blackout) since the biggining of november i'd do this:
november : timers -> 3
december: timers+mapcalls -> 4
december: timers+harder mapcalls (3b/57) -> 5
january: crc's + other minor bs -> 4
february: the were recycling mecm bahahaha -> 0
march+april: 4 part mecm's that included the bs mapcalls (29,30,31,32) -> 3
right now:them trying to dynamically change map calls -> 5 mabye 6

time to start donating via Paypal $5 to PGM to get him some cash and motivate him to gear up for a rough ride in the next 6 months, especially on BEV which is hard ass about protecting those NFLST she starts collecting in the next 2 months.
ST19 no doubt is going to probably be the safest option, but I doubt even with a more robust hardcode maprom table is NOT going to be enough to keep it working..so PGM is going to have to come out with weekly upatdes again especially in August as NFLST gears up on BEV and her card swap matures.
please donate to this very worthly cause, especially you NFLST fans on BEV.
p.s.
there are many unknown maprom permutations yet to be discovered on Charlie, the last report I read suggested 64 of them have been identified, but many more are still hardcode potentially into the rom102...so this can easily become a daily event with a single byte change to trigger the call.

:( Keep this thread alive ... Milli the 10 minutes is up...
PUT on the lite and wake up PGM and Wong and whoever ...
Yes, I know FREE TV is expensive ! ............ :rolleyes:
I think mili was a bit hasty when he discredited this particular change. We are looking at changing the map call with nothing more than a single byte change in the cmd07. A cmd07 comes down every 15 seconds. They can now change the map call without even sending an EMM. Plus, we are looking at the potential to have a different map call on up to 64 different groups of channels. There may be a solution to this that I haven't heard of yet, but so far, this one looks like it has tremendous potential. We could see some significant down time, or at least some daily hassles this time around.
One other comment. I see where a lot of folks assume the service providers don't care about taking down FTA's because they are targeting testing with a rom. Nothing could be further from the truth. The simple fact, most likely anyway, is that the service providers feel that if they can stop rom hacking that all the other methods will fall like dominoes behind it. Maybe this is true, maybe not. I personally believe the theory holds a lot of merit.

The fix is out for viewsats..... :)
I found this on card-coders by PKD their admin.
Map$39 fix relies on finding some bytes on some registers in the card. Same as Map3B. The only reason Map3B was figured out is because ST Micro guys were selling the info to Viewsat. As far as I know there are no HW emu fixes for Map$39 at this time and it will probably take 1-2 weeks before someone figures it out, assuming they get lucky or ST sells this one too. Once the fix is posted, they move to Map$3A. Same thing. Down again. Solve the puzzle. They have 64 map calls they can trigger with a single byte in CMD07. Also, practically every plastic card has been marked. I think they can loop them at will at any time. The question is how effectively will SI employ this latest tool. Judging from their past performance they will use it to the maximum ineffectiveness after the initial confusion. Much like if you give them a rifle to go hunting and they try to use it to clobber a deer to death with it.
I find it amazing how ST is selling out like a cheap whore and Charlie just takes it up the ass without a whimper.

this is why most fixes will take a while probably, most will try and think ahead
or maybe calculate their maprom ?? or finally unvail the full emulation.

This mecm writes to the bug table to prevent this and continue with the post processing, so if you open the eeprom window hit F4 one more time the valve will change and you will see the mark, at $3061, but try hitting F4 again after you patch this and notice that the write is now at $30B1 instead of $3061, also the trigger is N01/penga intercept.

C/P Mapcall 21 in the Stream detected .....serious DOWNTIME coming!! It has been noted from a good inside source that both BEV and DISH have implemented a new twist on MAPCALL 21. Timer dynamics are much more difficult to break.....this may be the beginning of some serious downtime coming to FTA for the next several days........maybe a few weeks. A touch of Nagra 3 is said to be in this stream as it is now being tested along with other ECM's to see how the timer code changes react.
Bandit5906
06-04-2008, 07:02 AM
Time will tell: I didn't see anything go down here though.
There is no debate about the new timing issues that will be coming up with certain map calls. It looks like they are working mostly on map21, but are also tinkering with timing at least four other maps. So far so good, but we won't know exactly whats up with this new stuff until they pull the trigger. Good news is there are quite a few folks logging these changes and the work on them has already begun.
