Last night, at Card-Coders dot com, Fab 5, developer of the USB256 Atmega, posted the following:

"I am just waiting to see if 3rd party software does indeed materialize. Sorry about the down time guys. Just be patient for another day or two."

USB Atmega has always been closed-source and apparently some third party claims to have cracked it open and will soon be offering it to the public, for a fee. They weren't exactly welcomed with open arms. Too many memories of the Magic Card, I reckon. Fab5's take on the situation is, well, strange. I'll leave it at that. :cool:

LOL.:p Yes, we probably should leave it at that. I will add one comment. I think it would have been, or be, better business decision if he would have released what ever fix he has, however temporary it may be.

all this time has went by and there has been a fix for over 4 days now for the Atmega 128 if it can work there should be a fix for the Atmega USB 256 there is no reason a fix could not have been released 4 days ago for the USB Atmega 256 all this about a thrid party fix is a joke I will not pay for a fix on any testing device I will get a sub before I would do that it looks as if the 128 will be around and work as long as the USB 256 so I will just stick with the old 128 have been using them for 5 years and still going so let your 3rd party try and charge a fee for a fix you will not get a dime from me.

i never bought a usb 256 cause my 128 cards never broke. so my q is.

what makes the usb 256 so differant then if you manage to build a usb 256. is the 256 atmega chip differant with fabs or is it the same old 256 chip that i have boxes of and his software is whats unique?

so this soursce code is build in to his chip only? or code only with his software?

thanks preety much just trying see whats the hype. dont take it wrong. pretty much read every forum every day. just seem to pass through the 256 forums. glance once in a while.
