Quick question for ya’ll. I have 2 black atmega cards (18.432) and one Blue PVR atmega (18.432). I program all three cards the same way with the newest Phoenix program and I am using public numbers. The two black atmega cards work in both my 510 and my 301.010 receiver. The Blue atmega works in my 510 but not in the 301.010. (UPDATE. It finds sig. in 510 but only shows black screen) When I put it in the 301.010 receiver it says “Smart Card Currently Inserted Is Not Valid For This Receiver“. I have also noticed the blue atmega sometime does not work as smooth as the black atmega (key changes, mecm rolls, ect). I thought the crystal might have been going bad but I have tried two different 18.432 crystals on the blue atmega with the same results. I also checked the Fuse Bits after writing and they are FF AF 89 FF, which if I remember right, is correct. I also tried erasing the atmega while I had the jumper on the board. Any ideal what the problem might be? I mainly want to get it working in the 301.010 receiver without it giving me the “Smart Card Currently Inserted Is Not Valid For This Receiver “ message. Thanks.

It's The Crystal Speed. Try Changing The Iso Speed In Pal. That Always Fixes Mine With Same Probs.

Oops On The Caps Sorry

No, none of thoses things worked. I think I am going to try to find me another 16mhz crystal and put it on the card and see if that works. A LITTLE BACKGRUND: When I bought the card, it did not work right and it had a 18.432 crystal on it. After asking on the fourms, I discovered that the card may have a bad crystal so I found the only crystal I had (16mhz) and I put it on the card and it worked good for about one year. For some reason, I wanted to or had to change the crystal and I got 18.432 crystals to put on the board. Ever since then I think all I have had is problems with the card. I don't remember if I have ever gotten it working since the last crystal change.
But with that being said, any other ideals are welcome.

Searchy4----- What other ISO speeds would you recommand trying. I have tried 4.608 (which I read on some fourm is the correct speed for 18.432 crystals and which is working on my other two Atmega's) and I have also tried 4.50 (which is what I use to use until I read the above info).

128's should not be erased or virginized in Phoenix. Thats from the creators. Use jeepers and Erase 3x and Alt Erase 3x. Then use Phoenix to write the cards. also try putting the mECM60 in as well. As for the SCNIC, I have only recently had that issue with the newer firmware updates.

Other things:

Try NOT using verify writes.
Try a slower write speed.
Try generating a PFG from Phoenix, then write it with Jeepers.
Stop using Pub #'s.
Install Phoenix to a NEW folder everytime, don't overwrite an old install.
Clean contacts on card.
Write the Card 2x (using either Phoenix or Jeepers)
Look into getting a powered loader (or do a USB Power Mod to your current loader)
Quit tinkering with replacing crystals, if 99.9% of 128's work with 18.432MHZ crystals, why would yours be any different?

Crystals can be damaged usually by hard drops of the card on the ground, other than that they don't really wear out. As most Atmega PCB's aren't super high quality, you could be damaging it by applying heat to it soldering and desoldering.

If you go to DSSDOODA.COM where these cards were sold & scroll down to Blue Atmega 128 it states "Great to work with HD501 but problem with some 301" I never have got Blue to work reliably with 301 while Black works great. It is not the crystal, there is something else different about the circuit of the Blues. Hope this info helps, maybe someone who knows why can explain difference.

I've got a load of blue atmegas that are crap. I think the crystal is other than advertised, but have not spent a lot of time trying to figure out the proper speed for them. Black ones have historically been cheap and easy to find, might be the real answer you are looking for. Considering I gave 25.00 each when I bought them a few years ago, I don't mind sticking with the black ones... Dunno what they are going for now.

i suggested x-tal cause he stated that he has already re placed it a few times. other wise dont mess with it. switching to diff speeds.
