The only adaptors that work worth a damn are PCMCIA card types, like these.

Is there any good usb to adapter that will work with vista and a atmega programmer? I was looking at new computers and none had printer ports.

I have tried usb-parallel port and even pcmcia parallel port adapters, neither works for me

I don't think VISTA is friendly with the PAL or JEEPERS software programs. These are pretty much the only ones you can use to program your Atmega.

I would look for an OLD laptop, with a serial connector already on it. As mentioned above, VERY FEW of those adapters work with laptops.
