After badly screwing up my 501 (killed conexant chip, traces, more) I won a bid on e*bay for a 510 that I should be receiving soon.
I have been reading up on this in several sites and forums and this is the best forum with great stuff.
However, with all this info in my mind. i am confused as to what the best method is to vidmod a 510? The threads are pretty old and I am not sure what works best??
Is the 4 wire trace cut method still the best method?
How and why is that different from the R44 method.
3 wire should never be used - right?
Is marrying a HD always required to test 510? - planning to use public keys.
Any help pointing the best method is appreciated. I will stick to reading only your suggested method.
Thanks.

323GT chips R44 mod
320DT chips 4 wire 2 cut method
323DT chips no mod needed

How and why is that different from the R44 method.320DT This chip needs the cut on bottom of MB to get into the protected sector. 4 wire 2 cut.
4 wire 2 cut will also work on 323GT chips but no longer necessary since R44 mod.
I have never use the 3 wire mod but have the others.
If you are going to change the IRD # & box keys yes you will have to remarry dirve
with virgin software and EEPROM

Thank you Bud02 . This is perfect info for me to get started. Just what I was hoping for.
I will know what chip once I get the 510 and follow accordingly.

I used the 510 Vid Mod 3 Wire 2 Cut method on the very first 510 I had ever done. It worked without a hitch. I used that method on a second 510 and it also work without any problems. I thought I would share this method I found, I do not take credit for this method. I used it on 2 510s that I had never done before and it worked great. No problems at all.

P.S. I did a 510 with a red motherboard and a 510 with a green motherboard hope that helps. I don't know what kind of chips were on these 510s but this method worked for both. I haven't had any problems.

The 3 wire 1 cut method has ruined MANY 510s and is not recommended......

Thank you folks for all the help. I received my 510 today. Hooked it up as is and I can get the signal locked and even the Nasa channel. So this works before the mod.
Now.. time to read up on the R44 mod thoroughly. Really excited and I just hope I do not make it into a $100 door stopper.
OH!!! BTW.. this came with a yellow card too the one with lots of colorful things on it. I think a Rom 102. Probably locked. Have to read up on unlocking this but that is for later.
I will let you know how the R44 works.

If you can get that card open you wont need to mess with the TSOPs / video mod.

No need to JTAG/vid mod if you can unlock the married rom 102 card that came with it.
