My "friend's" 301-010 was working fine with P393 firmware - private keyset. The IRD took a firmware update to P394, which I read out, modified to my private keyset with gendt08, and reprogrammed to the IRD. (I've done this several times in the past with no problems) Now no go! Green lite blinks on once then goes off and stays off. I read the modified firmware back out and checked with flashedit, but everything looks good. Also, if I program back to P393, all is well. Anybody know if there's a problem with P394 using private numbers?

P394 no workie here with priv 102 info on atmeg128. Even ch 101 black. Rcvr keeps rebooting.
Surprising that no-one else has posted about this.
Seems 394 is geared for 103 &/or beyond.

I will try it again when I get time. All checksums were correct according to flashedit, so I don't think the files are corrupted. I wondered if P394 had some new wrinkle in it. Anyway, I still have P393 to fall back on.

I have more than 10 301.010 @ P394 all on private numbers and Plastic 102 with private keysets... They are all fine, no problems.

sk's or dt's?
if u are using dt's, the upgrade will knock u out. switch to sk's

Good point Hillbilly....mine are all (private) that had SK's intact when I fixed the cards.

Yes, I was using dt's. Will try switching to sk.

Tried sk and still no go. Interestingly, when I read out the "virgin" P394 firmware and opened it with flashedit, it said that the app area checksum was wrong. Are the files corrupted (bad read) or has the checksum location changed?

you can either use factory flash and update it to 394 then create private

or

use the factory flash with any fw then create private sk numbers
and update to 394

its your choice

OK. Noob question here, since I haven't used sk before... Can I still use my existing (dt) private keyset, or do I have to generate an entire new one? Also, what version of gendt08 are you using?

its a good question, and easy fix.
open gendt08, open your dt08 flash u are using, hit the sk button on top, uncheck the ffff old ird number, that will give you your dt08 tsop in sk, same numbers. you can save that tsop and apply (make a virgin eeprom), no need for a new image on the cam, should be ok. OR after u click the sk button and uncheck ffff, open your saved rsa keys and resave(assuming you have the saved ones).
post results.

Hooray!!! Got it! I had been doing as Hillbilly suggested, but must have been getting a bad write when I re-flashed the IRD. One additional thing I had to do was to open the modified flashes in flashedit and fix the bootstrap checksum.

Thanks, all.

BTW - this appears to be a forced update.

How do you open the modified flashes in FE when the prog won't open it due to a bad checksum?

Use the "Advanced" mode.

Finally p394 upgraded according to Hillbilly's suggestion! No problems now.
Thx.

Can this method also work with a 501pvr, i.e. select sk and uncheck FFFF after loading dt08 of 501 into gendt08-sk?
