501 question please?

Hello.

Found a ****501pvr (w/ no cam) and it powers up fine to sysinfo screen. It shows a *** firmware revision, so it was previously used for the north. I have done some reading on these units and I've figured out it does not need a vidmod, as it has chips that end in 323DT. The desire is to change to **** with priv ird/bk.
Its build config is DCFD, which is v. hard to find. Can a DCED build be used (found two virgin DCED publics)? Or can I force an update to **** w/o having to worry about finding this unusual build config?

Any DCxx build will work for you.

Really? Any DC build for any bootstrap? (eg. a 21CB @ p079 versus the present 22AB) That would be easy.

No true, some will some wont, example is a DC8A will not work, but a DCEA might.

OK, to clarify..... I have successfully used the following builds on my 501/508 PVRs that started with DCxx....

DCEA, DCED, DCKA, DCKD, and DCSA.

They have all flashed correctly to my units and updated to current firmware version.

I always try to match at least the first three digits, but if I can't, I usually flash DCEA to it and the receivers have never rejected the firmware or have I had problems with receivers that I have done this with.

I have "virginized" or converted over to NoRSA more than 50 PVR501/508 and this is my experience, which may differ from other users experience.
