Anyone having problems with 2.7.9 in rom 103 and 103-206 spoof mode?

Same setup (windows, st19xl, 103 mode) on 522 and 622-HD just won't go with 2.7.9. In both cases, it comes up with "Smart Card not valid" and all zeros for the card #. Replace the exe with 2.7.5 and it all comes up fine (just no, or sporadic picture). In snooping at the dialog, 2.7.9 and the receivers just don't sync up with st19xl.
I see folks running ok, but is that in rom 102 mode? Would like to hear from any other folks running with 522s or 622s.

running 103 to 206 emu with no problems........other than some tiers seem to be changing. Hard to start......... yes. Pull power on reciever and don't power it up till st19xl is about ready to finish. This is so easy to change keys as you don't need to even pull the emu. Just power down the pc and restart with the new updated keys floppy. This version seems to be harder to start and some folks mention SCNIC errors but it is a go here. Good Luck!

similar problem with a 301.10. had to power it down for a few minutes before restarting.

powering down probably clears some volatile memory in the ird.

Well, after investigating further, it appears there have been some changes to the serial routines/timings in 2.7.9 that is making it much harder to start/sync up properly with the receiver. I normally have my computer in the basement and run 20-30' of cable to the receivers. That has worked fine in the past, but just won't run with 2.7.9. If I bring the computer closer to the receiver, say 6', the odds of 2.7.9 starting up properly is greatly increased, though not 100% either.

So, PGM, if you're listening, could you enlighten us a little on any changes to the serial routines, or anything else that would cause this change?

Well, I'm been doing some more investigation and think I have narrowed down the cause. I normally run a maxmel with the reset mod, and that has improved the reliability of startup and receiver initiated resets (at least on the 510 receivers). It has also been running fine with the 522 and the VIP 622 receivers in rom 103 mode.

Well, it seems that something has changed in the internal timing of st19xl 2.7.9 (windows) that makes it difficult/impossible to start up with the VIP 622 (with the maxmel reset mod). It still works ok for the most part with the 522. By disconnecting the CD reset line from my maxmel, I was able to get the st19xl setup working again with the VIP 622. I can only surmise that it is some sort of race condition of when the receiver and st19xl comes out of reset. The VIP 622 has a long initialization and reboot time. In watching the log screen of st19xl, it takes at least 1 1/2 minutes after receiver reboot before a reset is issued to card/maxmel. When that happens, st19xl issues the ATR as normal but the receiver doesn't respond to the 2nd message. After a while, another reset is issued by the receiver and the same thing repeats. Once the reset line is disconnected from CD, everything syncs up most of the time.

So this works for now, but I'm not sure what will happen at 4am tonight, when resets always seem to happen. Without the reset line, st19xl may get out of sync with the receiver. We'll see, but for those folks who are running VIPs with st19xl(any of you out there?!), see if this works for you, assuming you're having problems and did the maxmel reset mod.

622, cant get them to sync till its too late, ect...
211 works on some channels, then st19 windows quits scrolling on other channels.
522 lots of problems as well.
Id also to like to hear if anyone is running either 522's or vip's sucessfully

Under windows version 2.7.9:

522 - No problems, running fine with reset mod. Auto rolls and survives 4am resets
VIP 622 - Works, but still flaky. Can easily get out of sync on key messages.

To get your VIP 622 up, remove any reset mod if you have it. You have to hold the power button for 5 secs to get it to reset. After the reset, wait till the fan stops, and then wait another 30 seconds or so, and then hit 'R' on st19xl to get it to send an ATR. It should sync up shortly after that. However, it can still easily get out of sync, and without the reset mod working, the odds of getting SNIC or invalid smartcard is quite high. I find I have better success is I start it up on channels that don't need keys, like 9421. I also leave it on those channels until I need to change to a channel I want to watch. If you leave it on those channels (both tuners), then no key messages are exchanged, which minimize the chances of getting out of whack, until you want to watch.
