Help,
I have tried to bring my 301-13 back to life with no success.
Tried wall version 2 but no luck. the program says it erase's but shows no progress on the status bar and goes way to fast.
any ideas ? usually I would just send it to a friend whom I might say is an expert but he's in a middle of a move.
any Ideas? this all started Sunday when the receiver took a commercial
firmware upgrade.

I have the same problem. I used This vidmod:
http://www.bellexpress.vu/vidmod-301.013.html
I was able to pull programs from tsop, box keys IRD #. Then try to erase and try to write moded program and now is dead. jkeys will not recognize the receiver, Wall will not wake it up. JKeys say "unknown device".
Then I switched to Workmans 301-013 Permanent Vidmod without any sucess.

You just replied to a post made in July, hopefuly he has it going by now.
Be nice if he would have posted success or not tho.

Make sure your jtag is at least 12 inches long no longer no shorter than that.

~ 12" from receiver to the port.

Was able to reflash receiver, but the green light does not come on. The receiver was in the stream over night. It did not help.

I had the same probelm when I converted my 301 to the IRD2FTA. It was actually kinda cool that the 301 could run FTA code. Anyways, when I tried to convert it back to a 301, I had all kind of problems. I would reflash the tsop, but the light would never come on. I used a couple of flashed that I had from about two years ago, with no success. I even tried the sector erase and putting it back in the stream, which had worked in the past but not this time. I tried one last flash that I think was my backup for that ird and I had success.

During the process, It couldn't read the IRD type, so I had manually select the type each time I ran jkeys. I also had a weird jtag cable that not only went to the jtag port, but also grounded specific points on the board to help get the tsop in 'write mode'. I cant remember what points they are because I did it like 3 years ago. maybe sometime I'll pull it apart again and post what connections I have.

Good luck

I never had any luck JTAGging the 013's for whatever reason, I always seem to cook them, only had success with a couple and I've JTAGed my fair share...that being said, you mentioned you were able to flash the TSOP's? I'm assuming your TSOP images and eeprom matched the build config sticker? Have you tried the "Junkyard Fix"? I've had alot of success with it in the past on several receiver models, if you want to try it (not much to lose), here are the instructions for the 013;

Contact points: sb39 and sb40, located one on each side of the left tsop for dual flash models, or only tsop for single flash models, providing you are looking at it from the front of IRD.

Method: short for LESS than one second, immediately AFTER applying power to IRD.

I should have mentioned no vidmod install is required for this fix...

Maybe someone from around you can pick em up for free if they are garbage for U? :D
This receiver could be converted to FTA (no card), you could play also with plastic, atmega,.... Loooots of fun. The vidmod is easy (Workmen's vidmod). You just have to know what and when.
