Dish Network Weighs Another DirecTV Merger Attempt

Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Dish Network Corp. Chief Executive Officer Charles Ergen may be considering another attempt to combine with DirecTV Group Inc., the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The second-largest U.S. satellite-TV service, which yesterday said it lost subscribers in the second quarter, in 2001 tried to acquire Hughes Electronics Corp. -- then DirecTV's owner -- before Ergen abandoned the attempt because of regulatory roadblocks on the state and federal level, the newspaper reported.
