Your problem is that the keyset you flashed into your TSOP does not match the one that is on the harddrive.
When you convert a 501-508-510 PVR over between public/private numbers, you need to start off at a "virgin" TSOP flash. You cannot just flash any old firmware into a PVR and expect it to work. There is a certain version you need to start off from.
I am at work right now and don't have access to my notes, but I'm sure Workman has published no fewer than five guides on how to do this.

My procedure for marrying a HD with a new keyset and updating IRD to latest firmware with P080 TSOP and virgin EEPROM created from TSOP:
1. Ground the square pad of OJ1 -- I ground OJ1 to the metal chassis of the IRD with an alligator clip at the end of a foot-long wire; others simply jump the square pad to the round one with a short wire. In any event, power up IRD. The red and green lights should be illuminated at this point if a 501 or 508; no lights should be illuminated if a 510. Attach jtag.
2. Open jkeys. Go to EEPROM Programming. You do NOT need to powercycle the PVR 5XX IRD in jkeys. Just hit "OK," and the trap will set just fine. Program virgin EEPROM. Close window. Go to Flash Programming. Choose Flash 2 (U7) and erase the entire flash. This will take about 30 seconds to complete. Now, once jkeys allows you do to do it, write the P080 U7 TSOP to Flash 2. Close window. Close jkeys.
3. Unplug IRD. Remove jtag. UNGROUND OJ1 (important!). With blockered card in slot, power up/connect to TV and stream the IRD. After satellite acquisition is over, you should be on channel 101. The HD is now married to the IRD with your new keyset.
4. Unplug and unstream IRD. GROUND OJ1. Power up IRD. Again, the red light should be illuminated (again, only if a 501 or a 508). Attach jtag.
5. Open jkeys. Go directly to Flash Programming. Again, you don't need to powercycle the PVR 5XX IRDs -- just hit, "OK," and the trap will set. Choose Flash 2 (U7) and erase SA54 ONLY. This will corrupt the TSOP and cause a forced update of the firmware when the IRD is streamed again. Close window. Close jkeys.
6. Unplug IRD. Remove jtag. UNGROUND OJ1! With blockered card in slot, power up/connect to TV and stream the IRD. Eventually, you will get to the system information screen -- this will take about 20 minutes, so BE PATIENT! Leave the IRD alone during this period of time! If you leave your TV on, you will eventually see a black screen with crude white type that says that your receiver is being updated and to not disturb it. Heed the message! After the latest firmware is updated, the IRD may (or may not) do a check switch, then it will acquire satellite signal and you will get to the system information screen. Note that the "software" (i.e. firmware) should be at the latest (currently at P405).
7. Unplug and unstream IRD. Put everything back together by removing ejtag (if you jtagged topside) and OJ1 grounding/jumping wire and putting the case back together (only two screws!).
8. Power up/connect to TV and stream IRD. Let IRD acquire satellite.
9. Watch TV.

I was going to say, The Lizard King is also a PVR expert. Thanks TLK, I have learned a lot from you as well!

Sorry to jump on this thread. I'm having the same problem. But every time I install a p080 or a p079 flash I get (your smart card is not inserted correctly).
I tried so many p080 and p079 flashes and nothing.
If I try with a p396 or around there I get TV. But it will not update. And I get that (detected a serious problem with your hard drive. code 0408). And when I go to info screen, and try to go to the next step it goes crazy. (lines all messed up and the receiver restarts.
Pretty much anything I do it this 510 nothing is working...
I hear the hard drive spinning up and making noise's like it is married but I don't know.
I think Im doing to right but I can and more then half the time wrong..
I take the virgin p080 or p079 flash.. Open it up it flashedit and my #'s and make sure the crc is green...
Then I go to gendt08 load the flash from flashedit. open up a working bin.
rom102 radio button is on USE IRD SECONDARY KEY!!
(change the card lock to unlocked card)
Then I click
card RSA
calc SK
save keys
save card
save TSOP.
Then I go back into flashedit and open the TSOP that I just made in gendt08.
drop down box
save virgin eeprom.
Then I write it all back to the 510.
AND let me say this!!!!!!! This 510 must of been a reman. The board has a top side jtag pads. That looks like a 501 or a 508!
build is a DCZA
If I'm doing something wrong please let me know..
Thanks Eric
O YEA!!! Does it matter that the card Im tring to use is a mounted BGA. yes it is rom102 rev103 PLASTIC...I wrote a clean virgin plastic bin to it..

Are you using a compatible "build" as your "virgin" TSOP file??? You do know that the virgin build should match at least the first three letters, but MUST match the first two letters of the white Build Config sticker on the mother board....right?
You can't just flash any old virgin TSOP flash in there...many motherboards are physically different and require different builds to work properly. The machine does NOT auto-detect if it has the correct build...it depends on YOU to put the right one in there in the first place (so it can update to the latest firmware version of it's particular build).

Yea I tried the right build, Well the first 2 letters.
Mine is a DCZA. I even tried in flashedit to change it from DCED to DCZA but still the samething!

I loaded a p080 (modded for my #'s) and virgin eeprom from the tsop I made in flashedit.
But when i turn the receiver on with the card in it I get your smart card in not inserted correctly.
And when I use gendt08 to marry the card to the TSOP. If i go and check that bin I made in binchecker I get a all green X marks but one is red checked IRD MODEL is empty.
I think I'm having a problem when I use GENDT08 or flashedit. I move the flash to (moved ird info)
