I'm about to make my move now that prices are plunging on tvs. For our room, has to be LCD and I'm thinking of the Sharp Acquos (46, 52") or the Sony Bravia Series.

Does anyone own any of the above and if so, are you Happy or sorry that you purchased it?

Frankly I think 46" is large enough but keep hearing 'shoulda' gone for the bigger one', reminds me of motorcycles............month later and SHIT...........shoulda' gone for the 1,000, instead of the 650! ;-)

Oh, have basic cable and a DTV sub.............using S-Video on my CRT based Sony. Said IRD is standard Def and probably will stick with since can get a HD cable box for $99.

buy the Sony 52". There is no reflection. You can watch in well lit area. Other TV's have reflections and you have to close your blinds during the day and have turn your lights off during the night for the best experience.

If you're not going with any kind of HD feed then I would say to get the smaller screen unless you will eventually get the HD. I've seen SD on some 52" and it is really horrible.

You guys are being hosed, Used to be it was cheaper in the US but look at this.
hxxp://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=BDL10003308&catid (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=BDL10003308&catid)=

you can also look at bestbuy.com and choose canada.
something is up.

personally will not but any electronics until feb. since stores will only have sales then either that or they will have major lines for price adjustment from xmass. Bought a viewsonic 32 lcd 1080 p for 288 cdn plus two years warrenty ( 40 more ) at a well know refurb place sonic here in montreal and its great. Going back in Feb to pick up xmass returns cheap. Yes they get sony too but 2 G for tv is nuts.

side note US dollar is currently at least 16% more than cdn dollar.

i have an 65" Toshia Hdx that i use in the winter shop, still has a good picture

as far as newer units i use a sharp aquas 46" at the place on the beach, all windows, never a glare problem , that is what is good about Lcd, as almost all good quality sets have reflective screen nowadays, again that is why one would go Lcd over Plasma if there is hight light.
i picked the 46 as it was the right size for the room, and i can afford any size, sony is nice too, but i went with the Sharp, just do your home work as some have banding issues,

i am considering picking up a sharp aquas 65" Lcd for the winter shop
best place to do your homework is xxxavsforums.xxx then select digital display devices,
alot of great info there, a must before you buy anything.

plasma is good if you have a no ambient light problem,

Just bought a 46" Sony Bravia, Model number: KDL46S4100

During black Friday at sears for $1100 taxes included. Have it hooked to a HD 722 DVR and couldn't be happier. Great picture and the sound is amazing. Couldn't ask for more for the price...

Of course i went from a 25 inch to this though...lol But I also hooked my computer to it for one day just to see if it would do good for my games, love it. i will be saving to buy a nother one just for my intertainment room to hook my computer to. Playing Combat Arms, and FEAR on it was great, I even played a little bit of Call of duty 4 the explosions was sooooo life like on that big screen...lol

If you go larger make sure it is at least 1080 resolution, 720 and lower get grainy on large lcds.
Do your homework on the backlight used in it, Many use very expensive bulbs that need replacement, Average 200-300 dollars a pop. I love my panasonic 50cl14 1080i 50" lcd but it does go through a backlight bulb about every 13 months which is just over the bulbs 12 month warranty, Go figure!!! Wholesale on the lamp is 234.00

I picked up a 42" iLo (panasonic/LG knockoff branded by Wal-Mart) boxing day '06 for $1150 taxes in. Its a plasma, 1024x768 true viewing (720p base but accepts up to 1080i) It looks great, works supurb... All the quality I need for blurays from a PC or some nice HDWMV files.. It does look grainy on SDTV - but who cares, at that time in the market every TV was $2500+. My friend who settled for a sony 32" has horrible quality picture compared to my knock-off. Anyone blowing $2-3 grand on TVs this day in age should really ask themselves what else they can do with the extra $1000-2000 they are putting into it, as I seen some major series 4 and series 5 TVs from samsung that were 50 inch for less than my iLo costed 2 years ago... Yeah yeah it don't have this input or that input, only one HDMI.. whatever.. check out monoprice dot com and they have every damn multiplexer/adapter/switch/splitter you need. HDMI switches all 1.3B certified for less than $50 to your door, fully automated signal detection switching at that, and even comes with a remote and high reviews... I personally will not fall victim to the 'label', knowing how electronics work I see little risk in spending 1/3 the price for the same product with minor defects or drawbacks.. if it blows up, I can buy 2 more same day and break even in costs with a branded TV. I have yet to see any branded TV anywhere that I was like 'damn, I wish I would have got that one instead'.. even the cable guy commented on the quality of the TV. Maybe a 747i or something from tigerdirect if they have them in stock, but those are not cheep and buying a TV that's shipped to you with no retail return store always scares me... if it works for 15 minutes, good chance it will work for another 15 years

Most smaller lcds run cold cathode tubes and a inverter board, , The larger have a projection type bulb and are usually fan cooled. I did find turning the brightness setting down does increase bulb life 2 to 3 times.

The replacement bulbs are specialized and only fit certain sets. In a way it makes me think of inkjet cartridges , Once you bought it they get you by having to buy supplies from them to keep it running.

The Panasonic model I have had a class action suit brought against Panasonic over the bulb life issue. We all get to keep our 50 inch sets and by signing off panasonic gave us a new 65 inch lcd set including shipping for free. Downside is the 65 inch set is only 720p and picture quality is not as good as the 50 inch 1080.

I know you can still find them on the market, but you really have to look......avoid the Sony Wega models. All of them. There is a known issue by Sony that they did not include a dust cover over the lamp housing. In turn, dust accumulates in the housing and you begin to see spots on the screen. I have owned Sony for years, but after owning one of these I switched to a Samsung Plasma. Have had no problems and probably will never buy another Sony after that problem.

i have 3
sony, sharp and zennyth.

first place goes to my SHarp Aquos 42. (was in the Computer room but after seeing how it outperfrom my sony KDL-40W4100 40" in both prices and Performance.. (image quality on standar definition goes all the way to sharp. sony look like hair taken out of the ass on standar defition (that is why i decided to put it in my computer room since i connected either to the computer or the xbox 360 or the ps3, for High Definition.

even the zennyth look better on my SD signal than the sony.. and the Zennyth only cost me 750.00 for 1080p 42 inch..

There are other things involved, just because sony uses sharps LCD doesn't mean you are getting the same quality picture.

I'm not saying Sharp's picture quality is bad.

Also, I would get a samsung toc (Touch of color).
