too cold and to much snow to place a new antenna on the roof. most my over the air channels come in with the new digital converter box for the feb 17 dtv conversion. a few are very snowy and a couple break up. question can i take a antenna amplifier and place it ahead of my splitted to boost the signal and clear up some of these weak channels without replacing my out door antenna

Are you sure? Was looking for an HD antenna and the guy at Brand Mart said that the old over-the-air can pick up the digital signal and that an HD antenna wasn't needed. It was the first I had heard that but I figured he was saying that because they didn't carry any.
mant of the amp;fiers don't have the frequency range and could inyerupt the hd. If you gor it try it it can't hurt anytjing will post more for you tpnidht if ypu need. got to go to work

Not true. I'm using a Channel Master 0264 "over-the-air" amp on my outdoor antenna and the digital channels work great.
To answer the original poster's question - if you are splitting the signal, an amp ahead of the splitter will help overcome the splitter loss, but you won't get best results unless the amp is mounted close to the antenna head.

a TV amp will amplify any type of signal coming from the antenna. it doesn't care if it's analog or digital. any tv amp that covers VHF and UHF will work fine. the closer it's placed to the antenna the better.

My amp works great for me. The amp does ampify all your incoming signals...both digital and analog. The only real problem would be if you over ampify the digital signal. Kind of loses that nice picture.

dtv is actually an analog signal that contains digital information.
