Double check all your connections and restart your computer. Try it again. Are you using 10 pin programmer or slide programmer?

I am using the slide programmer and everything was fine until atmegas went down. Now I can't get it to even recognize the card, let alone fix it!!

when it doesn't recognize the card the lock fuses are screwed up.I was trying to find the file that shows the pictures of where to solder jumper wires to fix it so you can get into change the fuse bytes back

here try this it worked for me.What you need to do is solder one wire to the spot on the slide programmer and then open up jeepers and then hold wire to one of the spots shown at C1 I did the one next to the crystal and then with jeepers open click lock fuse settings and if it lets you get into lock fuses change to FF AE 89 FF and then write to card.if it writes then you should be able to erase the Atmega. But once you can erase and write you need to restore it to factory the should have no problems after that
