I asked for this forum, I got into Wii software based hacks to allow you to do a variety of things like install those virtual counsel and wii ware games for free. (You download the executable file to your SD card and then put it in the wii and load the game) Also allow you to play backup games. I have downloaded over 100 games via bit torrent in the last month and only a couple have given me troubles. I will spend some time setting up a guide if there is a interest in this forum. But things you must have to do this:
1. Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. This must be a original version of the game, rent it, steal it,
borrow it, buy it, whatever it takes.
2. A SD card compatible with the wii, I have used sandisk, lexar and HP w/o any issues.
Hey
Are these those WAD cards , Crazy??

yes they are .wad files that go on the sd card. a .wad for a wii is like a .exe to a PC
Hey
Cool...I have been looking at those myself!
Have got quite abit of info on those from some sites too if you need any

I have a stock Wii and I'd be interested in a newbie guide, info on what it does, if it changes anything permanently, etc..

theres like 10 ways to softmod, but nothing beats a hardwired chip... chips now are under $20US if you buy enough of them :)
if you don't believe me wait for IOS55/SM3.5 or whatever nintendy releases next.. softmods/homebrew will break due to how easy it is becoming, and how small the hole has become since SM3.2
this guide is 100% out of date - but great for referencing.. it WILL get you goin' on any wii currently.

ruciz, I do not mean to disagree with what you are saying as one day it may be necessary for hardware mods to be installed in order for backup game launching but as of right now. I can stop any game from doing the update check, using starfall, then I am also able to remove all update partitions and also make newer games work on older ios' update partitions at this time. I have only found a couple games (both PAL games running on a NTSC Wii) that i could not get to work. I will install boot chips when the time comes that I have no other choice but as of right now. Homebrew channel and gamma backup launcher is working almost as well as modchips. The one downfall is the slow loading times because gamma runs discs at 3x as where the mod chips run them at 6x or the speed of normal games.

3X and 6X make no difference, there were several comparisons done and 3x although it physically accesses the data slower is suitable readspeed for the console to play video/audio streams and gameplay...
What you are saying is you are able to modify the game to work with the system, which does work for now.. with that setup.
however, if the softmod ever breaks, stops working, you accidentally update, nintendo force-patches your console - ALL your modified games will be useless, even with a chip. This is also a very easy way for nintendo to ban your console from their online network as they can see the additional tickets on the system.
If you are persuing a softmod with your wii, and you require to modify your games, make sure you burn the 1:1 version first as you may need to fall back on it down the road should unsigned games stop booting.. Its rediculously hard to make an unsigned game become resigned again... either way nintendo lost the war. the DVDBus is debugged and emulated... no more solder chips will be coming out for wiii unit unless its a true 'modchip' featuring firmware/SM/tsop replacement...
