I've been struggling to find a decent download manager that is simple, has a user friendly interface and doesn't want to take over my system and keep track of every click I make. What download manager do you guys think is the best? I've got the rapidshare auto downloader and it works great for rapidshare. I'm looking for something that will work with more file sharing services than just rapidshare.

Thanks for any help guys.

I use flashget and always have
I love it and if you got a rapidshare account it works there,
if you dont we can keep you supplied with passwords and user accounts :)
it is a free manager and it supports resuming broken downloads and you can from the interface itself make new folders or catogorieies.

The final verdict is in. I was looking for a manager that would let me download more than one file at a time, download from more than one site at a time and increase my download speed. I was also looking for a manager that is user friendly and would automatically recover broken files if the connection got reset for some reason.

The hands down winner is jDownloader. You can set how many files to download at once. (I wouldn't recomend more than 4) jDownloader also gets you premium download speed from rapidshare and at least a couple other sites. jDownloader does not install itself into the web browser either, which is how I wanted it. For small single files it's easier to just get them than it is to set up a download manager to do it. You might be able to get jDownloader from piratebay or some other pirate site. I got my copy on the condition I wouldn't distribute it. If you do find a cracked copy, you MUST download the jDownload updates listed there first and you MUST NOT use the premium rapidshare service option to get the initial updates. After that, set up the manager to sign you in as premium user. jDownloader also will automatically enter the verification numbers for files on sites that require that, so no more messing with that either.

I'm pretty impressed with jDownloader. It could be a bit more user friendly, but all the options are there to customize it just how you want it.

I'm currently getting almost 200kb/s from megashare and about 130kb/s from rapidshare with jDownloader....at the same time!

Another benefit of the jDownloader that I didn't realize until I got up this morning, jDownloader will reasseble those .rar files that have multiple parts automatically once all parts are downloaded too. This is a pretty darn good download manager. A guy is still limited to only one download per site if the site has a one download at a time limit, but I don't think a manager can get around that. It's a site restriction.

I also use Flashget. After setting it up, you never have to mess with it again. One problem I notice with Flashget is if you add a link that is dead, it shuts the program down.

Flashget is great, but it's fairly limited. It's great how it downloads what ever portion of the file it can get and then reassembles it, but it's not as flexible as jDownloader. JDownloader does the job flashget does, but it will begin downloading where it got cut off instead of anywhere in the file it can. JDownloader does so much more than flashget. It's like flashget is a great manager for one file, but jDownloader does almost the same thing and a lot more with multiple files at the same time.

I'm really surprised that jDownloader isn't a lot more popular and available. It's a great manager IMO or I wouldn't be promoting it so heavily.

I am comparing to flashget, Internet Download Manager, Massdownloader, Rapidshare auto downloader, and getright. jDownloader was by far the best out of these IMO.
