zeroing out hard drive

hi good evening fellows i have a maxtor 250g hard drive and fellows i need to zero it out but fellows i am having some technical difficulties. i took it out of my 921 and i need to zero it out and put it into my PC. when i put in my windows CD and my boot floppy the screen is just staying black. fellows i need some help here. this is my first time zeroing out a hard drive. only people that knows how to zero out hard drive can post. i would to accept opinions but i want to do this right. thank fellows

Get a program from the mfgr of the drive, usually Seatools from seagate will get Maxtor and Seagate and a few other drives, but get one from the drive mfgr to be sure.
Get the one that makes a bootable floppy, do it from DOS, is a lot faster. Alternately, a program like Partition Magic will set the drive up for a PC.

Use a live Linux disk and at the konsole type this

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/TARGETDRIVE bs=1M

TARGETDRIVE should be the actual drive as identified by linux - usually just sda

okay thank you for your info but there is nothing popping up for me to write that to i am trying to erase a 921 hard drive. what am i suppose to put on the floppy hard drive on get this type of information i am a newbie at this.

As newer PCs dont have floppy drives, hirens bootCD is another option
Google hirens bootCD and download that. Set your PC to boot from CD and run one of the partition and format programs from that CD.
The drive needs partitioned, with at least one Fat32 or NTFS partition, then formatted.
Windows will format it too, after it has one or more partitions.

isnt the one out of the 921 a sata?
if so, might need to enable your sata settings in bios.
or change the settings
