Home Router needed not matter what?

My ADS modem is very close (3 feet) from my DN IRD can I hook directly the LAN cable to the silinger box and the ADS Modem or I need a router between them as a MUST?

Its a modem that is wirless but also have the LAN cable connector! mi amigo

Then it is not a modem. It is a modem AND a NAT router built in.
