Has anyone experimented with the length of the phone cord (RJ11 cable) between the Slinger box and the Slinger Interface card (wedge card)?

I'm asking for planning purposes as I already have the RJ11 cable in place from my st19 setup. I currently run it about 60 feet from my emulation PC in my basement and my MAXMEL on the 2nd floor. With SLE44 (get in the way-back machine) I ran it about 100 feet to the wedge card.

So it would be easier to locate the Slinger box next to my PC and router, and use my existing RJ11 cable, than it would be to route the RJ45 cable to the router.

Any experience with the length of the RJ11 cable?

Thanks,

Anyone???

RJ11 cable is referred to as twisted pair, it works for audio up to 2700 KHz (bandwidth of the analog phone line). Depending how 'dirty' your eviorment is, it should work.

If it doesn't work and your cabling is in the wall, you could try tying a string to the existing cabling and pulling through some Cat5e instead.

Not all telecom cable is UTP, some are flat cables and much more prone to interference. RJ11 AND RJ45 are connector types, not cable types. You could very well have Cat5 cable in the wall terminated with an RJ11 end.

I've always used regular ol' telephone flat extension cable in all my previous applications for both DTV (SLE44 at 100 Feet to my wedge card) and Dish (st19 at 60 feet to my MAXMEL). In fact the original Scorpion DTV emulators for SLE44 came with flat RJ11 phone cables in 6 foot lengths. But it was always IRD dependent - with DTV the RCA/Thompson units could handle the 100 ft but the DTV Sony units could only go about 6 ft before they started having errors. I seem to remember runnng the CEMU ROM10 emulation about 100 ft to my MAXMEL too.

I think it will work but I haven't tried it because I don't have a Slinger yet. Just in the planning stage right now until I get the Slinger ordered. I usualy read and read and get a plan together before the new technology arrives so when it actually gets here I'm ready to roll.

I know I need to do it now before they are gone but on again - off again employment leaves me a little cash poor right now. I'll hopefully get it ordered in two weeks. when my unemployment checks come in and there will still be some Slingers available.
