My ISP I use for the Internet out in the sticks where I live is wireless and I receive the signal from an antenna mounted on my TV tower from a antenna 7 miles away.

My question is this I can not use skype because I'm only at half-duplex instead of full duplex, will the slinger be compatible with my half duplex internet service?

Thanks,

That makes no sense. If you are able to post here and in general access the web you are using TCP/IP which is a two way street with data coming down and acknowledgments going up. Half duplex was something old sound cards had.

Im currious as to what type of antenna you are using for 7 miles.... is it an off the shelf type like Wild Blue or a home made one jumpng off of someones wireless G signal? It so happens, I recently moved 7 miles outside of a small town and two miles outside of cable range. Using Hughes No-Net and hate the Internet.
sorry, I dont want to hijack your thread but.....

Got to find an alterative!

as for your situation try a web speed test, lets see what your up/down rates are. there are plenty of them out there but I like toast.net. look on the left hand side for it. I dont care for one offered by your provider, call me parinoid but I think they skew the results to make you think you are getting what you are paying for.....Post your results, lets take a look.

Half Duplex also applies to networking / ethernet. Basically he can only transmit or receive at any given time, Full Duplex would allow him to transmit and receive simultaneously, which is what any non-legacy connection should support unless there is a misconfiguration at either end or other special circumstances (which his very well may be).

Your issue of not being able to use Skype is probably more related to your latency and packet loss, not your Half Duplex connection - the only way to know if the Slinger will work is to try but the IKS stream is not very data-intensive so I would say you have a very good chance of it working properly.

I agree with darkfly, it's only keys and most of the time you are receiving (reading email, on a website and basically idling) so the keys should come through. Dial up is half duplex if I remember correctly, and believe the Sl*nger works with it. Perhaps at the most possible case, may take a few seconds longer to get the keys.

Check out the FAQ, dial up is probably mentioned.

Thanks for the speedy reply mili.

I called my ISP Itoday to tell them that their prior statement about half duplex was incorrect, made no sense, they assured me that it did make sense and that due to their tech situation they did indeed only have a half duplex system approach.

I recieved the same comments from my ISP that Darkfly posted, however their comments were not as helpful as darkfly's were.

Thanks to all who've posted responses to my question, I am going to try the slinger now that I have had my non-sensical query answered.
