Almost 2 weeks ago I forked out just about $1200 for a top system.:).NFusion HD with 33" Dish with 5 LNB's....it apparently needs a constant Internet feed??? I thought I could just use the USB 2GB jumpdrive that came with it../???? I have internet...but I live in the country and at the moment I have dial-up....I was told there is a way to make this work..but I wasn't told how..??? Other than to do what I'm doing now ....searching the net for forums to try and figure out how to make this work..??? Any body have or had the same problem.....I'm really sick of watching "Speckle-Vision" :eek:that is the 3-4 channels I get from the old TV anntenna on the hill...that most of the time is hard on the eyes..!! I have this kick-ass system all set up, lined up, programed..the works but still havn't watched a single show...my DVD collection continues to grow..!!! HAhA Please Help..!!

Ok this is all C&P, i don't have dialup. This should help you somewhat until
someone chimes in that knows more about it.

How to Connect Nfusion to Dial - Up c/p
How to Connect Nfusion to Dial - Up
You don't need to be a whiz at computers, just follow the direction

When you have the XP dialup server configured, you can connect the computer and the nFusion together either with a hub or switch, or even just a Network crossover cable (a network cable with the send receive pairs reversed, not straight thru, available at Radio Shack) either way with the dialup connection connected to the internet, simply plug the network cable into the nFusion and it should get an IP address from the DHCP in the computer. Give it a minute or so, then check the "Network" settings on the nFusion and see if it now has a TCP/IP address assigned, it will probably be something like 192.168.0.x . and you should be able to get IKS over the internet, and also get bin updates, but as they are in the vicinity of 800k it will take a while, depending of course on how fast your dialup actually is. I must be honest, I have not tried this with my nFusion as I have a 6MB cable broadband, but I do have a lawyer client that has two computers connected thru an ICS connection hosted by a third computer with a dialup and it has been running trouble free for over 2-1/2 years, slow, but it works for MS Updates, email, Antivirus updates etc.
Good luck!

Above is the first message I recieved from madscientist.

This is what I used to get Nfusion connected to the Internet
DYNEX PCI Adapter 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Model DX-E101
DYNEX 4 Port 10 Mbps HUB
CAT 6 Premium NetWork Cable
When you have followed all the directions on the link above connect your hub to your computer, do not use the port that says uplink use port 1, 2, 3,or 4. Myself I used 1 and 3.

Connect the other cable to the Nfusion. Now connect to the internet.
When you have a connection turn stb on from the back .You should at this time have a TCP/IP. Go to menu Network information and see if your information is there. If not go back to the link and start again.

If you do have your information there, go to Control panel ,click on internet connection and you will see your dial up connection and your lan connection. Click on your lan connection. What I did here was close every thing, I only left the lan page up don't shut off the internet.
I found by doing this I was able to down load the files with out it shutting down part way through. I only have a 28.8kbps connection, so the least programs running the better. As far as the red light goes, it does it own thing sometimes on sometimes off. I checked my IKS by ooooo out the keys. You will then see the red light start blinking.

Good Luck!

Badger.

I hope you figure it out, Its a lot of $$ to spend before doing some research..
Dial up should work but your will have to convert your dial up to lan via the pc doing the dialing.
also have you read the news about Nfusion bust and server posted here?

good luck, sounds like you should have slinged your way to tv instead of nfusion iks.
its your lucky day, someone nice enough to give u the howto

Thanks alot you guys...special thanks to wildthang/Badger...I'm new to all of this..not to sure what some of those technical terms mean..??? I started out in High School with the old Apple II's...HaHa Had to learn the metric & imperial system at the same time.. But I'll figure it out...I'm alot better off than I was 1/2 an hour ago..thats 4 sure..If all else fails I may just have to fork out a few more $100's of cash and get rid of the dial-up. That way I can have my land-line back and run more than one computer..?? Or can I do the way u said "wildthang" will that allow more than 1 computer as well as the Sat reciever..??? Sounds like thats what your lawyer friend did/has... I have a D-link wireless router that I used when I was in the city...I wonder if that could be configured to work...???? Thanks Again...Peace..!!

I believe you will have to add a module to get dish hd and if and when the bev server returns, it will require the same module quite soon.

I had the HD module installed ....I am getting some channels..like NASA...and HD Theater...and a few advert channels but thats it..??? I must need the net connection for the rest to work...??? or update codes somehow using the USB jump stick..??? how ever that works...download from somewhere and then plug it in and it uploads to reciever..??

Nfusion runs on IKS or emu. Noth both. emu only works for N2 streams, IKS for the N3.
You choose one and use that. since you have no ethernet connection, I suggest emu.

IKS needs a constant internet connection, with emulation the box decrypts everything for you, provided you have applied the correct bin with the right decryption code..

The jumpdrive has no purpose for anything you are trying to do, unless you want to record a 30 min SD show to it or update the bin on the box.

I presume you did a multi-sat search with the unit, and have your powered switch setup properly, as you state 5 LNBs are connected to the system. Are the LNBs correctly configured? This would be a reason that channels may not be found.

There are plenty of guides, and great reading material with all the status's for this receiver at nfusion forum dot com

hey ruciz!...try to keep up eh?.....lol......nf currently will not run on either provider with emu, it must be turned off in the menu.....there has to be an internet connection to view either.....the usb ports can indeed be used to update bins (or indeed go back to old ones should the need arise) or to record programs to harddrive or whatever.....updates can also be obtained via the internet update server or can be pounded in via a webloader from a pc.....soooo, zephead65 (love the nick btw) needs to upgrade to dsl or some other highspeed internet (prolly not a bad idea given what year it is) or setup so that his dialup can be shared

I just read, I don't have the ability to test anymore :( I wouldn't even know what the fucking thing looks like :P

Didn't know dn was IKS only as a fair amount of recent posts were using emu, I guess there hasn't been new bins in a while though now that I look... I know their dn IKS is working and bev's has not for a while now. From what it seems if you turn EMU off and turn IKS on the box will 'take care' of the rest.. no worries of bins or keys or changes as the IKS updates it all?

you are looking at around 7MB/day per box, appearently.. Most dialup connections can get at least 400MB/day so you should be good for quite a few boxes on one dialup account... not sure if the additional hops will affect the need to get the CW/keys/etc.

no worries ruciz....just didn't want the fella getting all hooped trying to get things going on emu....lol......btw it's alot less than 7 megs if left on all day.....quick math puts it at prolly under 100kb for 24hrs based on 16byte cw's every 20 seconds or so......16x3x60x24 plus some for transport i'd imagine........hmmmm where did i put my slide rule....lol....at any rate he'll be fine on dial up if he gets that going as recommended........cheers

If dn removes all the maps then the any emu will work for the guy but by that time its almost over.

Are the C.W.s only sent out once to establish a channel connection, and again when changing channels or is it constantly updated if one stays on the same channel?

If it's the former, most ISPs will drop the line after 10 minutes of inactivity. At least they used to do that in the dialup days (only had so many centrix lines) and wanted to keep user connectivity @ 90% (nothing pissed off their users more than a Busy Signal).

Back then I'd run a program called 'ponger' in the background, and it would ping the ISP every 5 minutes. :-)

This guy spent some serious money on his system, a few dollars more for DSL sounds reasonable, add an FTA motorised antenna and he'll never be completely down.

i assume that they are constanly (every 20 seconds or so) updated......if you disconnect from the internet the picture will freeze in about 20 seconds even if you stay on the same channel
